A/N: O.o How dd I forget to post this? Many, many apologies to the prompter! I had this done before posting started! Oops.
NOTICE!!! I haven’t yet played FFXIII, but I used some online information to help me fill in the blanks. I plan to play someday, but I won’t be able to for awhile. I’m going to use online resources to read up on the story, so if you want to spoil me, go right ahead.

She stood in the bedroom before the floor-to ceiling mirror, studying the person before her. Lightning—Scratch that—Claire brushed the loose strand of her curly pink hair back for the umpteenth time. On this day, the day her sister became Mrs. Villiers, she promised she would use her birth name. Tomorrow, she would become Lightning again.

Today, though, she would be Claire Farron, the foolish girl she’d been before joining the Guardian Corps, before her mother and father had died. Before the weight of raising her sister, becoming a l’cie, and dealing with all the trials that followed.

She sighed and shook her head, ignoring the bounce of curls twisted up on the back of her head. Smoothing her hands down over her crimson gown, she tried to convince herself that this was okay. It was just one day. Her eyes drifted back to her reflection and she sighed. Who was this person? The woman with the make-up, the bright gown, the diamond jewelry, the hair lined with tiny red and white flowers… This wasn’t her. This was a stranger she hoped never to see again.

This was Claire Farron.

She was Lightning. They started out as one person, but now there was no recognition of the girl she once was.

A knock sounded on the door and, after a call of entrance from Claire, the door creaked open and Hope poked his head in. He froze when saw her, dressed up and without her gunblade. “U-um… Lightning… You… You look… nice…”

She watched the teenage boy enter her hotel room through the mirror. “This isn’t Lightning. I’m Claire.”

Hope scuffed his fancy dress shoe on the carpet and looked down at his suit. “Um… Snow made me wear it… I guess it comes with being the best man… Oh, and Serah’s looking for her maid of honor. You might want to go talk to her. I think she’s having the equivalent of last-minute jitters.” He turned back towards the door and paused to lean back in. “Oh, and-” He flashed a quick smile. “I bet Serah would really appreciate it if you could smile. It is her wedding, after all.”

Claire waited for him to leave and focused on her reflection. Lightning didn’t smile. She just didn’t. The memories made it too hard to. But Claire… Claire could smile. She took a deep breath and forced the muscles in her mouth to twitch upward. She got one side to go up and, when combined with the far from delighted glint in her eyes, it made her look about ready to kill someone. Which wasn’t so far from the truth, but still… Like Hope said, this was Serah’s wedding.

She tried making the other side of her mouth go up, too. Once she did, she blinked in surprise and her eyes widened. That look… It almost made her look… happy. She wasn’t. She was far from happy. She still couldn’t stand how easy-going Snow was and she felt Serah could do so much better. Granted, he had proven himself to be dedicated to her, but… If Serah was happy, then that was that. As long as he took care of Serah and didn’t break her heart, then she could find it in her heart to support their union.
