When the trial is over, Phoenix never knows what will happen next. Will it all end in a handshake from Mia, a sincere "Well done," or something else? He tells himself he is not attached to what sometimes happens between them but of course he is. Today he hasn't done anything spectacular in the courtroom, though he feels confident that tomorrow they will win. But Mia doesn't always wait until the trial is finished to decide what he deserves.

Today as they walk back he tries to read Mia's body language, but fails. It isn't until they reach the office and his boss turns to kiss him that he knows.

This time she perches on the edge of the chair and he kneels in front of her, allowing himself to explore her mouth as she begins to caress him through his clothes. It's always like this, never in a bed or a more private place, and he has never questioned that either.

When he reaches for her blouse she unbuttons it for him, guiding his hand over her breast. He pinches her nipple gently just to hear her sigh. They never discard their clothing on the floor though they have all the time they need and the office is always locked.

She is exceptionally eager today, unfastening his pants and reaching for him. Phoenix tries to hold back but has too much need to be inside her. He manages to make himself last, to feel her come around him before he gives in to his own release.

The rule is never to speak, but this time he does.

"I must have been working very hard, to deserve this."

For once, she replies.

"Sex isn't a reward for hard work, it's a reward for staying true."
