Brotherly Love
Sometimes, he reminds her of Alistair, but she tries not to think about that too closely. Especially when they sneak away from camp together, or manage to grasp a few minutes together alone.
She wonders if it’s that reminder of her brother that drew her to Eight in the first place, that led her to kiss him experimentally that first time, but she tries not to think about that. Or how she used to sneak peeks of Alistair when he thought she wasn’t looking.
He has the same eyes, the same gentle manner that vanishes into bold determination when he’s called into battle. He listens to her and understands without condemning, allows her to cry when the weight of saving the world is too much, reassures her that she’s strong and that they’ll find Dhoulmagus and save the world.
He’s always optimistic, always so sure he’s doing the right things for the right reasons. And, Jessica loves him for that. It’s so hard to be sure all the time, but Alistair was, too, and she always wished she could be like him in that respect.
When he touches her, his fingers light and gentle, when his lips brush against hers, she can’t help but remember Alistair comforting her when she was hurt, gathering her into his arms when she was frightened. He was her world; he was her life.
She thought that life had ended until she found Eight and he looked at her with the same eyes Alistair had, until he touched her with those same gentle fingers, until his lips brushed hers. When he entered her first the first time, exploding inside her, bringing her to the brink of heaven, she had cried, remembering Alistair, worrying that there’d been more to her feelings for him than brotherly love.
Sometimes, he still reminds her of Alistair, but she tries not to think about that too closely.
