I think this was the first bit that had me go "... okay. I'm hooked. *clears diary for the next half hour to get it all read*" :D.
Axel's eyes were green, his hair was red, he liked his food spicy, his music loud, he was good at science, he was flame in a human being's skin. <- randomly, of all the little details here, my favourite totally has to be the being good at science. Because it definitely fits - I can't work out how, it's nothing as obvious as explosions and bunsen burners, it just... it just really really works for him. (I also really loved the repetition in 'The one--the only one--who had never gotten weirded out' when describing Roxas, because it's lovely but really sad at the same time.
Roxas poked at Axel with one foot, and Axel pondered stealing his sock if he kept it up. <- Very much gives me the giggles, because Roxas is trying to give him a helpful talk and Axel's sort of listening but very clearly letting himself be easily distracted as well ^_^. God, I remember that feeling when I was sent to a counsillor. I lasted about three sessions before just giving them the answers they wanted and quitting in a very bored, 'well that was useless' huff.
Roxas going quiet but still saying about being worried they'll panic and take Axel away kills me dead. It's just so... oh, lord, it kind of really brings home how young he is, and it's just... oh. *hugs him*
*flails at Xigbar so hard for just being awesome*
And then, then 'only his nightmares lacked flames', *yes*. Love love love love love.
The dream/nightmare just gives me shivers. It's fabulous, so creepy, and so actually dreamlike-distorted (love Roxas' changing outfits), and Roxas yelling at him to let himself burn, and yes. Love. :)
(love the tiny detail of the marker pen's smell in the next scene, btw. And Roxas' sleepy-speak)
Oh, and "Except sounds like we probably would've been dead after. That part woulda sucked." makes me break a little thinking about the game, damn your awesomeness XD.
Btw, loving the soundtrack :).
And yeah, the date and the kiss is just... aww. It really is, it's just open and happy aww, because it's not too cute or too soppy or too anything, it's just nice, and... and easy, and it's just right.
And god, the "Axel loved his best friend. Loved him in so many ways, he honestly couldn't describe them all." *marries and hugs that line*, because it's simple, but it just is *exactly* what that sort of best friend feels like, and it's all your brain would ever conjure up to describe it, and I love it. *hugs for it*
Dying under the deck it was. Oh lord, parents. And randomly, in the middle of this it hit me *so hard* at the virtual non-existence of parents in Kingdom Hearts, and yeah. I don't know why that made me go a bit wibbly, but it did.

And oh, just got to the end of part 1/2, and I am suddenly nervous.
And just to make sure I don't lose this or break LJ by accident, gonna post this half first and do the second half of the comment on the second half of the story :).
