Speechless
One night, words fail him.
For all the times his life has depended on how he spoke, for all the times his compliments were the only thing that managed to keep him and those he traveled with from ending up being killed in some horrible way or another, his lips were silent. And at the worst possible time.
This place was far from the home he and Flower-in-the-Night had grown up in, and Abdullah found himself enjoying his new home, at least once the proper spices and foods were brought in. He had made friends who were true friends and found himself married to the most beautiful of girls.
Here before him now, though, was a sight that stole the breath from his lungs and silenced his ever growing vocabulary.
Flower-in-the-Night was dancing.
All around her, in this strange place of wet and green, she danced, mist moving around her as she did. Flowers that he had never seen before brushed against her legs, and Abdullah found himself jealous of them, jealous of the water that seems to just settle on her skin for the sheer joy of being there.
He knew he should compliment her, and all his compliments to her were honest ones, but when she looked at him, she smiled.
Sometimes, it seemed from that look, to be silent was better than a thousand compliments.

Date: 2007-08-11 05:39 am (UTC)And Howl thought he had love problems. At least he wasn't nations away from his lady love.
BTW, I know this seems to be a new and perhaps annoying habit, but I can't help pimping a Howl fic to anyone who's read the books. The name of it is A Woman True and Fair (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2500604/1/A_Woman_True_and_Fair) by The S (http://www.fanfiction.net/u/166630/The_SThe_S). It's the first book completely from Howl's point of view. Trust me it's worth the read. Howl is so in character! And it just sort of explains little things that Sophie was so confused about or just plain didn't notice in the book. Let me know what you think of it if you do decide to give it a try.
