Even before their mother had died, it had always just been the two of them. Masayoshi for a long time didn’t do anything without Masami. He followed his brother around like a shadow and Masami allowed it.

When they went to live with their father in Japan, Masayoshi wouldn’t accept the stranger coming between them. Masami was the only blood he would recognize.

Masayoshi was seventeen, on his way to graduating from high school and he realized that somewhere along the way, Masami had moved on. He spent less time with his brother, and more time with that boy. The excuse to help Tohru study for entrance exams was obviously a ruse. Masayoshi coped by going out with as many women as he could, and staying out every night that Masami had a study session.

Masayoshi was twenty-five and desperately trying not to laugh at Tohru’s latest attempt to woo his brother. He knew that his brother would never fall for an oaf like Tohru. Masami had remained with him ever since their father had moved on. It was as it always was, and how it always would be. Just them.
