Title : "I Apologise for the delay, but..."
Author: i_am_zan
Rating: Gen, I am most apologetic for that!

Summary : Prompt - Sparring - "I cannot die yet. But this, I can give you."
“I Apologise for the Delay but...” by Zan
“There is something I must do first,” Kanbei is almost pleading but not quite. His breathing is ragged from the run-around the scarlet swordsman gave him. He is thoroughly impressed, if not a little intimidated and the rush he felt is quite unlike anything he knows. His own-gloved hand stayed his opponent’s hand. Kanbei risked a soft thumbed rub of the young man’s palm. It was almost a caress, definitely a challenge and perhaps a vow.
…
You hear it because you are close enough to see the controlled gentle rise and fall of his chest.
“…” You reward him with utmost disdain. As if, you care.
That fact puts you out slightly, to put it mildly. You do not know if you let him – step into your circle - and ponder on the skill that so deftly manipulates the dance. That, so quick that personal space of yours shrinks to almost nothing. That with such speed you lose the lead.
You gauge his measure as a warrior. You and him, stalemate. In a twinned stance, you bleed each other. Is this an oath of sorts? Who you are, is not entirely sure.
You take him in as a man. Something you do not do, because it can kill you. You look for the lie in his eyes and search for the tremble in his hand. Yet you see his eyes unflinching and sure, and the touch of his hand is firm, gentle and full of promise. Yet you give him ‘Yay’, nor ‘Nay’, at least - for the time being.
“Hnh,” you brusquely pull away from him as you deftly kick your sword back into your hand.
“I’ve lost the energy for this today,” with a vague promise to finish the dance another day. As you turn away with a flourish of your crimson coat – for effect of course – you can feel his presence follow you with his eyes. You know you will follow out of need.
