The sound Zaraki made when a sword pierced his shoulder was animalistic enough to send a shiver down Kuchiki’s back. Putting a little extra strength behind it, the composed noble pinned Zaraki to the wall. A thought brought another sword to his hand, their battle encased in the thousand swords of his bankai. It had been a harder battle than he had anticipated, having to work for his victory. But now it was over. Zaraki’s sword lay on the ground meters behind him, and there was nothing to do to stop him from ending this fight here and now.

Reaching up to grasp the sword sticking out of his shoulder, Zaraki growled and tugged, the bells in his hair jingling merrily, the sound so out of place in this battle. A sickening sucking sound accompanied the removal of the sword, and Zaraki threw it aside, grinning.

“Is that the best you have for me, Kuchiki?” He laughed, walking past the other man to retrieve his sword. Kuchiki frowned, choosing to ignore the insult of a turned back in the middle of battle. He would not let this man get to him, make him lose his cool. Absolutely not.

“Unlike you, proving who is better by shedding the most blood is not appealing at all to me. Why I bothered to begin this farce in the first place is beyond me. I’d rather end this as soon as possible.” Once more taking a fighting stance, Kuchiki stood ready to defend or attack, whatever it took to end this quickly.

Zaraki rushed him once again, somehow managing to slip up inside the reach of his sword, one of his giant paws around the smaller captain’s waist, the other on a shoulder as he bent down to crush their mouths together.

“If you wanted this over, why didn’t you just say so?” Kuchiki found himself grudgingly grateful for the hands holding him, because his knees, for whatever reason, refused to hold him up.

I think that the use of their last names put a little more ... distance between me and the ficlet; I just don't tend to think of the characters by their last names.

I loved the way you really brought their duel to life, as well as their exchange at the end.

aww

I really love how you portray both Zaraki and Byakuya. I'm currently rereading your works on them again, lol! Please, do write on the pair. Please.
