Prompt: Howl's Moving Castle, Howl/Sophie: Smiles and laughing - "It's just a birthday, not the end of the world."
"You should come downstairs, Sophie," said Howl, pressed against the bedroom door.
"You don’t understand Howl. No. I'll come down tomorrow when it's over," came the reply.
"You're always saying how stubborn I am. Do you think this is setting a good example for how I should be?" asked Howl, smiling because he knew exactly how to push Sophie's buttons.
There was a long pause, then a sigh before the door unlocked. "That was unfair," pouted the young girl, arms crossed.
"It's just a birthday, not the end of the world.” Howl turned and beckoned with one finger. "Come on. I've had Calcifer make breakfast."
“That’s fine for you to say, you were never turned into an old woman. I've been old already!” laughed Sophie, tugging her nightgown down over her knees. As she descended the stairs, Sophie expected to be hit with the smell of eggs, or bacon. What she didn’t expect was the barrage of wonderful aromas that tantalized her nose. Eyes wide, she proceeded.
When she hit the bottom step, lights came on and shouts of 'Happy Birthday' erupted from the room. Turnip Head was there, and Michael. Calcifer, the fire demon, was hard at work bubbling up and baking all sorts of delightful creations and beamed at Sophie as she came down the rickety old stairs. Howl had once against surprised Sophie with his extraordinary skills, this time in cooking.
"What is all of this?" Sophie asked, trying hard to hold back a giggle. Turnip Prince had a ridiculous looking foil hat on his head in place of his usual formal wear.
Howl crossed his arms, smiling. "What does it look like? It's a birthday party, of course. And I absolutely forbid you to lift a mop, broom or dust cloth today. Understand?"
Sophie smiled. "Thank you, All of you are the best presents I could ever receive, on any day."
