Title: Quixotic Justice
Author: belladonna12
Rating: PG13
Word count: 488
Summary: Roxas hates the fact that he can’t see Riku’s eyes, when he desperately wants to.
A/N: A somewhat stilted piece. Roxas and Riku didn’t want to cooperate with me. There’s a series of games coming out, one of which mentions the 14th member of the Organization, so I kind of cameo’ed her with an idea for what might have happened to her.
Disclaimer: I don’t own the idea for Kingdom Hearts, Square Enix and Disney do, and I’m making no money off of this, so please don’t sue me.
Prompt: Kingdom Hearts, Roxas/Riku: blindfold - "What are you so afraid to see?"
Quixotic Justice
Roxas has almost reached the end of his hypothetical rope with this Riku. The other boy’s not a Nobody, but he wears the Organization’s robes along with that damnable blindfold. He knows about the Other Roxas both longs to know about and fears to ever see. A Nobody can not exist when confronted with their Other. Number 14 is a perfect example of that.
Still, if Riku knows Sora, then Roxas almost desperately wants to know Riku. Riku belongs to the memories that Roxas can occasionally grasp. Roxas can almost remember excitement around Riku, challenge and anticipation and uncomplicated joy. Perhaps Axel is Roxas’ Riku, since he invokes a similar almost feeling.
The blindfold irks him, though. Roxas wants to see Riku’s eyes, wants to KNOW why Riku can hold a Keyblade even though Axel and Xemnas both insist that Roxas and Sora are the only ones that can. So, while Oathkeeper and Oblivion strain against each other, Roxas throws a question out into the midst of it all, trying to learn more.
“How can you wield a Keyblade? You aren’t the
“There are many Keys, many Keyblades, why should there be only one
“Why do you wear that blindfold? What are you so afraid to see?” Roxas flings the questions he truly wants answered out there, not even trying for subtlety. Riku whirls away, breaking the embrace of the two blades, then stands, a being of mist, shadow, and distant moonlight. When he answers, his voice is strained.
“Myself. I fear to see myself.” Then he attacks again, and Roxas has no more time or breath for questions. He feels cheated, both of the full answer, which he knows Riku didn’t give him, and of seeing Riku’s eyes. The eyes that he can almost remember, the ones that Axel’s eyes remind him of.
Riku’s eyes, which watch Sora and Sora alone, not Roxas.
