Oooh. You don’t know how difficult it was to not read this story as soon as it came out. I wouldn’t let myself touch it until I’d caught up with my late/due stories. Because I wasn’t well enough to write yesterday I ended up further behind than I intended to be and almost read this story regardless, but I stayed ‘strong’ If one can be strong while whining the whole while.
As a result, by the time I could read this I was rather giddy with expectation, and to say that the story did not disappoint is beyond and understatement. I really can’t say enough how much complete and utter joy I’m getting out of Spring Kink because of you. There’s just so much excitement and anticipation, and then it’s topped off by seriously awesome stories that turn me into a squeeing fan girl. This story stands absolutely perfectly by itself, while acting as an absolutely fantastic tease for the end of the month (arg! So long to wait!). I know I’ve said this about your writing before, but there is this real clarity and quality to the way you write that I wish I could mimic in my own, overly claustrophobic style. Everything has the right impact and zing, and I absolutely adore that about your writing.
As for the characters … Eeeee! I just adore anything with Pain, Charon and Max, and you just get them perfectly how I see them in my head, with the exact dynamics I want the three of them to have. You take what we see of them in the books and flesh them out into characters with all sorts of facets and personality quirks and it’s just a perfect fit. The plot itself is interesting and clever, funny yet with a serious edge still there. Plus, I’m absolutely dying to know what happened in the previous two fics that precede it, so you’ve set them up perfectly without making this part at all confusing.
I love the way you manage to flesh out Avalon in general – I love the role Cedric or Tamsin play, I love the way the council operates, I love the way the Faerie King is as nutty as he is ^_^
Cannot wait AT ALL for the next parts ^_^. It will certainly help me get through the next couple of weeks of work!
Thank you so, so much for this!
(I must be having a blond moment, because I've got no idea. I must be a terrible, terrible fan)
