Title: Sometimes
Author: Scrolls
Rating: PG
Warnings: None Really
Pairings: Reno/Elena
Word count: 338
Summary: The past and the present.
Disclaimer: Don’t own, just like to play with from time to time.
Prompt: Final Fantasy 7, Reno/Elena: From bad guys to good guys – “Do you ever miss our old life?”
“Do you ever miss our old life?”
Elena paused, drink held just to her mouth. The two were tucked into a back corner of a rather familiar bar, for once not fighting like cats and dogs.
Seeing the look on Reno’s face however-the face he used when they were on the job and about to get into something both very painful and bullet-filled-made her rewind and think about the question instead of brush him off.
Automatically Elena put her glass back down onto the table, ignoring the chick telling of a drink just one gulp away from empty.
Did she miss their old life? Missed the days when they worked for a man obsessed with an immortality that didn’t exist? Miss the days when all who looked upon them did so with varying levels of fear? Fear even the SOLDIERs all shared at some level? Missed the days when the only ones who weren’t afraid were those whose egos were larger than Gaia?
Did she miss the days where even those who had once known her looked at her and treated her like some sleeping dragon that could awake at any second and devour them?
Sometimes.
On the other hand it was nice to be able to walk into any decent eatery and not have the room congeal in fear. And while they weren’t watched like some wild thing, they weren’t treated with the familiarity that AVALANCHE was, some halfway point that in their own way the Turks enjoyed.
There were those however that thought that because they had gone soft they couldn’t kill, couldn’t still maim and hurt and hunt and shoot. Those who met with Rufus who looked at them like some showy and ultimately toothless guard dogs.
Sometimes.
Seeing the look in Reno’s eyes change to something else, Elena simply nodded at him. Holding out her glass, Reno chinked his against hers before they both knocked back their drinks.
Oh yes, sometimes she did miss the old days. But in several others, she didn’t.
Sometimes.
