Trying So Hard

Sohma Kyo had never kissed anyone before. He had never thought he would ever have the chance. People believed he was a monster, and who in their right mind would kiss a monster? But she didn't think that way, and as she loved him with all her heart, she could kiss him.

But, as Kyo had never kissed anyone before, he had no idea what to do when the urge finally came over him and Tohru. He leaned in too quickly and as Tohru was unprepared, he ended up bumping his lips against her nose. She yelped and flinched back, and Kyo caught her by her shoulders.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry," he said quickly, his hands trembling. "I'm not good at this. But I'll try. I'll get better. I'll be a man who'll make you happy. I'll do it just for you. I'll be worthy of your love."

Kyo felt Tohru's warm hands cup his face. "You already are," she said. She began to lean in close, slowly and carefully, and her lips meet his.

He wasn't worthy of her yet. But she believed in him, and he was going to rise up to her expectations. His lips against hers, he thought, One day, I'll be the man you deserve. I promise.
