Brahman’s Sons

Heat O’Brien couldn’t quite tell you when in his childhood he met Serph Sheffield.  He’d been considered the block bully, overly aggressive and attempting to dominate anyone and everyone.  Serph had to have moved to that block around the age of five for both of them, and things had been different after that.

Heat had attempted to beat the holy living shit out of Serph.  In a short, vicious battle that had resulted in torn clothing and more bruises then were worth counting, Heat had found himself flat on his back with Serph’s teeth buried just deep enough in his throat to make him bleed a little.  So, for the first time in his life, Heat found himself yielding to someone stronger.

He never did tell his mother who’d bitten him.

For the next five years, Heat and Serph were an inseparable team.  They hung out after school, during lunch, raided the library and neighbor’s nut and berry trees.  They built a secret fort in a small, inaccessible area of Serph’s grandfather’s place, rigging it for the comfort of two to three people.  Life passed easily, Heat taking it in stride that they would always be friends.  Others touched the edges of their friendship, bringing an odd sense of knowing them but not knowing them as well.  The odd Jamaican kid who’d dyed his hair blue and could outrun anything.  The strawberry blonde who insisted her hair was pink and occasionally patched their scrapes and wounds up.  The blonde who helped them pass math class, scolding them for being too lazy to comprehend.

Then they were ten, and Jenna and Seraphita Angel moved in down the block.

Jenna, Heat disliked.  He had the feeling that Jenna was an enemy, but couldn’t prove it.  She latched onto Gale, the blonde guy, almost immediately though, so Heat never really saw her.  Seraphita, or Sera, however, fell into step with him and Serph, becoming the third person who shared the fort, who told them fantastical tales of things she called Asuras and Yakshas and their battles for the salvation or destruction of the human race.  Time passed quickly, a golden river of laughter, trouble, and the sense that everything was right.

Then they were sixteen, and Heat found himself competing with Serph for Sera’s attention.

At first, the battles were purely who could give her the better present, who could hold her attention the most of the day.  The tallies were complex, more often then not leaving no clear winner.  Then the verbal sparring began, Heat all too often on the losing end due to Serph’s razor sharp tongue.  They pushed against each other, shoving silently and verbally.  Then one day, during a shouting match at the fort, with Sera absent, Heat swung, and the fight was on.

It was more vicious then when they were children, blows they once would have turned aside or considered unfair flying.  Then Heat’s head cracked against the floor hard, and Serph’s teeth dug into the old bite mark, tearing it open anew and causing Heat to howl in surrender and something the red head was fairly sure he didn’t want to feel for his once best friend.  Serph’s teeth slipped from Heat’s throat, their mouths suddenly meeting in a bruising rush and feral growls.  It was quick and messy, neither knowing enough about how to pleasure another male to manage much more then rubbing against each other in-between rough kisses.  Heat found himself able to do little afterwards but look up at Serph with wide eyes as confusion and horror slid across the other’s face before Serph staggered upright and all but ran out of the fort.

That night, Heat’s dreams drifted between Serph and Sera, and he woke frustrated, wanting both.

They avoided each other for a whole week after that, leaving the gossips buzzing about how the most solid friendship had broken over that tiny little girl Sera.  Heat desperately ignored the looks, the mutters of how could they like that plain little mouse enough to fight over her, and everything else.  It didn’t help that they had swimming in gym class.  Serph’s body in nothing but swim trunks and Sera’s demure yet somehow provocative one piece created more fantasies for Heat’s mind to cycle through.  He tried even more to ignore it all, but other thoughts reared their heads.  How did one do it with another guy?  Or with a girl and a guy?  Blushing a red to match his hair, Heat checked out books on the subject from the library, retreating to the fort to read them until he fell asleep.

He woke to find Serph sitting there, nose buried in one of the books and carefully not looking at Heat.

“Find anything interesting?”  Heat felt defensive, unsure.  Serph neatly bookmarked his place, putting the book down.

“Repeating the same mistakes is a human thing.”  Serph’s calm and quiet voice made Heat feel that something important was going on.  “But which is the mistake here?  Repeating our fights?  Or repeating this?”  Then they were rolling on the floor, hands tangled in shirts and hair, using open mouthed, sloppy kisses to try to express what they were feeling.  Serph was in the process of kissing his way down Heat’s chest when a soft, startled noise made them both freeze.  Sera stood there, black eyes wide, red gracing her cheeks.  Heat stared back, dazed and uncertain, and then Serph nipped and licked soothingly and Heat moaned, closing his eyes and blindly reaching out for Sera.  He figured she wouldn’t take his hand.

It surprised the hell out of him when she did.

They were clumsier as three then they would have been as two, but none of them wanted to separate.  There was a desperation, a sense that there was something they needed that could only be achieved together, not with one left out.  Heat and Serph did there best to coax Sera into a similar state of arousal, using a piecemeal combination of things they knew worked on themselves, the other, what the books said, and scraps overheard in the boy’s locker room.  They couldn’t figure out what to use as a lubricant, and they weren’t quite daring enough to just use spit, afraid of hurting each other or Sera or themselves, so they settled for kisses and touches, and eventually Sera cried out, writhing between them and sending them over the edge.

Memory rocked Heat’s world along with orgasm, and for a moment, his mind went black within white within black as he tried to separate dozens of Heat’s from the one that existed NOW.  He felt the bullet tear through his side, gasped as he rammed his hand through Serph’s stomach, felt blades tear through Yaksha flesh as Varna forced his way out, ran Agni’s claws down Varna’s blades, played innocently with them as Fred watched, died of old age and accidents and murder before his mind snapped back to who he was now.  Serph blinked torpidly and then laid his head on Heat’s chest as Sera let out a little moan.  Heat wet his throat and rasped out into the air.

“Okay.  Mistake number one, fighting so much.  Mistake number two, letting Seraph be in charge of our memories.  Both mistakes will probably be repeated.  This, however, is not a mistake.”  Serph and Sera both looked up at him and smiled.

“Heat, shut up.”  Then laughing, they pulled him into position for a kiss.
