Summary: Her brother, she knew, would have gotten her running shoes.
A/N: A drabblet.
"They'll be uncomfortable at first," Manx warned her.
"I'll get used to them," she replied confidently - she worried more about the price-tag than her ability to wear them; a week's wages seemed a lot of money for a pair of shoes.
"You can't run in shoes like these either - not unless you've had lots of practice."
Her brother, she knew, would be sure to make a comment just like that. He was always concerned about her safety, treating her like a porcelain doll, wanting for her to stay in her box, let him take care of her. She'd told him about Manx and he'd barely blinked - but then she told him she'd be moving out, to move in with Manx, and he'd all but forbade her to go. It was sweet, in a way.
"I'm not going to do any running away," she said, smiling.
Manx smiled back, then sneezed.
("My sister is sleeping with Manx," Aya said.
"Never thought I'd be jealous of another woman," Yohji commented. "Damn. Then again," he went on, looking pensive, "lesbians are hot."
"I'm sure Manx-san will make your sister very happy, Aya-kun," Omi said reassuringly.
"Huh?" said Ken, who'd been watching a soccer-game until Omi's nudge alerted him to the fact that he was supposed to say something.
Aya forced himself to breathe deeply and slowly count to a hundred. Once he'd reached a hundred, he'd thought of at least a dozen ways to kill someone and quietly get rid of the body afterwards. He also felt a bit calmer - he smacked Yohji anyway, for good measure, and left the room without another word, reflecting that he ought to have known better than to expect anything from his colleagues.)
