Prompt: June 4th - Final Fantasy VII, Aeris/Cloud/Zack: Guardian angels – “You see? Everything’s all right.”

This is how heroes die, Cloud remembered, punctured with bullets and stab wounds, and leaving quite a legacy.

But the third time he fell into the Lifestream, both Aerith and Zack were there to catch him. Even with numb eyelids, Cloud could feel them hovering above him. She was giggling, and he was muttering about suicidal idiots and not-babies, when Cloud was in a limbo between consciousness and sleep. He tried very hard to see, to even notice the difference between their voices from then to now, and felt his bodily wounds closing up, his torso slick with water. He supposed they still won't let him rest in peace, not with the light headed, surrounded by white feeling.

Much later, when all that was left from the initial relief slowly turned into fatigue, Cloud took a seat at one of the church's salvaged bench and watched as visitors come and go.

Every inch of his muscle was aching, and he closed his eyes, trying to salvage a much needed rest.

"Well, Mr. I-saved-the-world-twice," he heard Zack say from beside him, and could actually picture the lopsided grin, the curving that would bend his infamous scar. Contrary to popular belief, the SOLDIER loved teasing men and women equally. "You've done well."

"Earn us, Cloud." Aerith whispered, and her fingers on his hand were warm, unlike the body he had lain to rest at the Forgotten Capital, and he realized then that the kind, sweet smile never leave her face.

When he opened his eyes, they were gone again. From this world, he knew, but his chest was warm with the knowledge that they were there, they are and always will be watching over him.
