It really wasn't; I wrote about ten pages, decided I hated them, and scrapped them all before starting over in present-tense. Then I had a horrible scare when I got about fifteen pages into my final draft, and my copy of Microsoft Word locked up and wouldn't let me make any changes or even copy the text to move to another file. I thought I was going to have to transcribe it on another computer, but everything ended up working out.
