Title: "Not My Kind of Burning"
Author:
n_finitefangirl
Rating: PG-13 (to be safe)
Warning: Some swearing from Axel
Word Count: 314
Summary: Just because you can use fire doesn't mean that you're immune to the aftereffect of prolonged sun exposure.
Author's Notes: Axel really should've used sunscreen. *sighs* Oh, well, live and learn, I guess.
With every touch of the soaked cloth, the sunburned skin twitched and cringed. With every twitch and cringe, a voice muttered a single, repetitive word: “Ow.”
“You should’ve known better than to go walking around in a desert with no sunscreen--and in completely inappropriate attire, no less” scolded the wielder of the potion bottle and the soaked cloth.
“Hey, at least--ow!--everything was covered—owowow!”
“I didn’t mean that kind of inappropriate, Axel.”
“Oh, c’mon, Roxas, it was just a joke. I mean--Ayyiiieee! That fuckin’ hurts, damnit!”
“Sorry! I must’ve tipped the bottle too far by accident.” Roxas cleaned up the pool of stinging, healing liquid on the burning red chest. “What I meant to say is that you should’ve been properly dressed in desert clothing, rather than wandering around with only an open vest, pants and sandals.”
“I thought--oooowwww--that kind of clothing was more of a religious thing than anything else.”
“The clothing they normally use is light enough to help deal with the heat, Axel. And the more common clothes are colored so that you can blend into the desert if you’re trying to hide from bandits, or one’s enemies.” Roxas sighed. “Honestly, don’t you ever do your research before going on missions?”
“Y’know, you’re starting to sound like Vexen and Zexion.”
“At least I know better than to rush into another world with only the bare minimum facts, like it’s a desert world with a Princess of Heart as the heir to the throne.”
“Okay, okay, point taken... Owch! Damnit, Roxas, just heal me, already!”
“I am healing you.”
“I meant with a spell.”
“If I did that, how are you going to learn from your mistakes if all you think about is getting a quick fix? After all, you’re the one who likes to learn from experience.”
“Gee...throw my words back into my face, why don’t you?”
