Summary: "So are you afraid?" Roxas asks.

He avoids XIII as best he can, for days. Meeting XII for the first time didn't go so well, and everybody seems to think the new kid is really hot stuff in a fight. Even Xaldin is impressed. Demyx has no intention of getting into that.

But there's a limit to how long anybody's luck can last, or at least, anybody who's not Luxord. So eventually Demyx is on his way back up to the castle from one of the weird little half-finished nightclubs in the dark city, and he finds his way barred.

"So are you afraid?" Roxas asks. He's carrying his keyblades. Probably only reasonable. The city's Heartless peer out from all the dark corners, watching him, eyes glowing cool and hungry.

"I hear you like to fight," Demyx says. He doesn't have his sitar out. Yet. "I don't."

Roxas gives him this smirk that makes Axel look friendly by comparison. "Must make things hard for you," he says.

That's all the warning he gets, but Demyx is used to that by now. He can dodge and summon his sitar at the same time -- he wouldn't have lasted long if he couldn't -- and then he's playing, turning the city's rain into a line of defenses, swirling waterspouts between him and trouble.

It's not enough. Roxas cuts through the water bright and merciless as sunlight, and Demyx's back hits the wall with the force of Roxas's energy, his drive, his -- there's something about him that's not like any of the others, something that makes Demyx's eyes wide, makes his chest feel tight and heavy and unfamiliar, makes him want --

"Yield," Roxas breathes. His eyes shine with reflected neon. The blunt edge of his black keyblade presses against Demyx's throat.

Demyx reaches up and wraps a hand around his nape, pulls him in close so they're kissing over crossed blades. The kiss is wet and hot, and it takes only seconds before Roxas gets into it, biting, sucking on Demyx's lip.

The timing here is tricky, but he thinks he can pull it off. Demyx waits a little more, until Roxas's eyes flutter shut and the tension eases out of his shoulders -- and then he pushes, so Roxas staggers a step back, eyes wide.

"You didn't think I'd be that easy, did you?" Demyx asks, grinning, pulling the darkness open behind him so he can make his escape.

When Roxas catches up to him, he's probably going to be sorry, but his hands are shaking and he feels alive, and he thinks, it's worth it.
