Something occurred to me. As it is, there's no actual incentive to complete claims. Maybe some sort of banner would work? I'm sure there are graphic artists in the comm that would be happy to contribute if it meant more fics. Maybe something like "_____ completed 5/5 fics for springkink's October 200X round"? Or something along those lines. Something that gives a number of how many fics they did and recognizes that they completed the challenge?

Just a thought. I don't think it's a good idea to put pressure on people, that stifles creativity like anything and this comm is meant to be fun, but giving people an incentive to succeed is a good thing in general.

I dunno about that, really. The incentive for me, so far, has been 'OHGOD THIS IDEA IS SO AMAZING WHY I NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT IT BEFORE!?' and then writing it.

The incentive, more than 'I got these many fics done' is, I think, sharing inspiration, sharing awesome in an awesome place, no pressure, and if RL happens, you can still write it later.

Well, yes, of course, but when I started watching it this community was a place where you couldn't post it later. Someone asked a mod what they should do about a missed date story and they said to either post it on that date next round or never. *shrugs* I don't have a problem with the change, and the increase to four writers/prompt makes it a lot less bad for everyone else when someone claims a lot of popular prompts and then doesn't post, but it would be nice to have seen a third of the fics I was looking forward to seeing this round. I counted up the fics that looked good from the prompts list, and, well... the output was rather disappointing compared to previous rounds. A lot of things I was REALLY looking forward to haven't been posted. A lot. And it's not just me who's been disappointed by this.

Yeah, but real life happens and an incentive won't do a thing about that. One of my best friends was looking forward to writing and posting a lot, and then she had to take care of school issues.

If the prompts gathered interest, chances are that in a later round they'll create interest again. And perhaps when they've time, the ones who took the prompts will be able to post them.

Yes, I myself missed a few prompts at the end of the other round I was in because of health problems. But there's a difference between that sort of thing and the reasons a lot of fics weren't done. I still have those health problems, so I got around that this round by only claiming after I'd written, for instance. There are ways to deal with RL intruding. But people who claim everything that looks shiny and then aren't motivated to follow through are pretty annoying to the rest of us.

Seriously, realizing that one had too much to handle is a proper reason, or life suddenly happening in the middle too. The round past this one, I was working so I didn't write much. This round, since I wasn't working and was just taking care of some family issues, I took waaaaaaay too many and I considered dropping some because it didn't seem that I would enjoy it. In the end I did write everything because I'm stubborn like that, but, seriously.

Writing is about fun. This is a hobbie. The moment this hobbie starts being a chore, then it's not fun, and then it's not a hobbie anymore. I'd rather one of my prompts was dropped rather than the writer give something that s/he doesn't feel proud of, or something that they enjoyed.

And sometimes there aren't ways to deal with life kicking your ass.
