Prompt: 22nd - Megaman X, Lumine/Axl: establishing dominance - how does it feel to lose everything?
Authors Notes: Hope you like it, hon. ;D

There was circulatory fluid on his armor.

He could hear it dripping on the ground, into the widening puddle that spread across the floor. He could see it splattered over his right gauntlet,

but oh, it wasn't his gauntlet now was it

sticky, almost viscous red against the white.

or his own circulatory fluid

He only wished it was.

He remembered the Seventh.

no, he couldn't forget the Seventh

A feeling of wrongness- like his synchro was off and nothing could fix it. No matter that he tried to remind himself that these weren't his buddies, weren't the Reploids he'd thought of as brothers, the first family he'd... his first family. He'd been killing his friends and he damn well knew it.

knew it and did it anyway

Because they were Mavericks- they wanted to use his power for corrupt things and he'd had to do what he thought was right.

killing his friends

It didn't delete the aching lack where his memories of them remained. He hadn't resisted, hadn't asked if there was another way. He could have. He could have spoken with Signas. He hadn't been on the best terms with the Hunters then, so it might not have worked... but he hadn't tried. He'd thought he'd known what had to be done. He'd sure as hell done it.

Now, throughout this horror he'd tried to stop, tried to fight-

just like Alia begged you to

and raised his gun all the same. Jumped, and dodged, and pulled the trigger. He was too good. Too good for the Hunters... without X or Zero to help them.

Resting in capsules, thinking they were safe.

Hunter security was perfect.

If you were outside trying to get in.

So many fallen.

retired

So few good enough to score a hit although he had a few of those to mar the white armor- carbon scoring and shallow cuts across his leg guards, one on his helmet where Layer had proven her skill to be far more superior than he'd guessed.

The last knelt just before him, weapon fallen a few feet away and hand too mangled to use it in any case. She couldn't call it back as he did.

His gun, trained unerringly on her CPU, no matter how he tried to lower his arm, to let the weapon fall back into data storage.

aim

He wanted to at least say something- tell her to run- tell her he was sorry- that this wasn't him....

But she didn't look angry and that was worse. Pity- her full knowledge of his powerlessness, and his ability turned against him, against them all.

She wouldn't close her eyes.

He couldn't tell her to.

She was crying. She'd been built with tear-ducts and it further twisted the beam-knife.

fire

His finger curled inward.

She crumpled to the ground.

Axl swayed like his strings had been cut- realized they had. He could move again, fall to his knees in the puddles of fluid all around his feet. He could drop his gun and feel it return to storage, curl his hands into fists and slam his head against them. He could feel the repaired crystal in his helmet and the urge to break it- crack it open and vulnerable and reach in as if he could claw out the contagion that had caused this.

He gritted his teeth around the screaming in his mind, the laughter growing to drown it out.

now tell me

how does it feel to lose everything?
