Title: Logical

Rating: M
Prompt: Persona 3, Akihiko/Mitsuru/Shinjiro: threesomes, sharing - Despite their differences, they couldn't not stick together
Word count: ~700
Summary: From two pairs to a three is rough going, especially for Shinji.
Shinji pretty much hates her on sight. He tells himself it's her attitude; little ice princess, nose always in the air, born into a family that has everything and gives her everything.
Lucky, he thinks. He soon learns different.
But yeah, he hates her. Hates her voice, the way she walks, those stupid fucking bows - and most of all the way she looks at Akhiko, because it's nothing like the way she looks at him and Shinji already knows where it's heading. Blood in the water. No coincidence what Polydeuces is weak to.
But Aki's a good guy, real nice. Doesn't tell the princess where the fuck to go, even though it's been him and Shinji long as either of them can remember. Maybe he likes the attention. Shinji doesn't bother asking, not even when she starts saying Aki too and not even when he walks down the hallway at night and hears two voices inside her room. He won't admit to how jealous he feels either, because he's not a fucking pussy. Akihiko knows it anyway. Dumb bastard.
So Shinji learns to share - pretends to watch TV some nights, pretends he doesn't notice Aki crawling through the door to Mitsuru's bedroom. Other nights, maybe Mitsuru does the same. Sits there, legs daintily crossed, paging through her stupid books and trying not to listen to her boyfriend fucking someone who isn't her.
It's like chewing rocks. Aki acts like he feels all guilty, and being Aki he probably does. Whenever Shinji and Mitsuru fight - words as barbs and sledgehammers - he always just fucking stands there, forehead all creased up, looking angry and lost. And he always, always tells Shinji later that it'll be fine; that they all need to sit down and just talk it out.
They never do. One night in November, they run into a Gigas down by the station and Mitsuru takes a couple bad hits. Aki heals her up swift enough, but she's still staggering around like a drunk. Lies through her teeth, of course - tells them she's just fine, she can walk back alone. Usual Kirijo crap, Shinji snaps, then slings her left arm over his shoulder and her right over Akihiko's.
It's slow going. All three of them are exhausted and the Hour's almost up when they carry her through the doorway to her room. First time Shinji's ever seen inside. Empty space, fancy sheets, dull colours; pretty much what he imagined. Akihiko finally finishes freaking about whether they should help her change and Shinji's already turned towards the door when Mitsuru makes a weak grab at his coat and tells him to stay.
Shinji figures she's just messed up, thinks he's Aki. Then she adds, both of you, and - with the clarity born of a fever - tells them she's tired of it and that this is the most logical approach.
Akihiko's brow furrows. Shinji just tells her she's fucking nuts. They climb in next to her all the same; Aki against her and Shinji against him. Too tired to argue, maybe. Or maybe she's just right - because they do the same again the next night, and the one after, and the one after that.
Mitsuru calls it their 'arrangement'. Nice word. Very tidy. None of it fucking is, not when Shinji's still pissed at her half the time and they're both rougher than they should be. They get better, though. Quit keeping Aki at the center, start acting like three instead of two overlapping pairs. Doesn't stop him calling her Princess and doesn't stop her rolling her damn eyes at him, but still. Shinji learns they've got enough similarities - stubbornness, sharp edges - to make the differences interesting.
So it's Aki and him and her. Sometimes he thinks it's fucking laughable when Mitsuru's got boys lining round the block for a scrap of attention, Aki isn't nearly as awkward as he makes out, and shit, even Shinji could probably find someone.
But it makes sense, even if they don't always fit and the edges don't match. There's three of them who keep moving when the world stops, three of them keeping one huge secret, and they're better off sticking together. Logical, right?
