Prompt: Death Note - L/Light: Obsessive compulsive - A game of cat and cat
Word count: 310
As the old adage went: 'Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.' Being chained to someone was almost as close as one could get besides becoming intimately involved.
Crouched on the bed, L watched over him as Light slept. L may not need sleep - pumped up as he was by all his sugar intake - but Light did need sleep and it was a vulnerable time for him. L knew, though, that any little disturbance would awaken his sleeping companion. Light would be alert in an instant. It was somehow amusing to L. He loved the challenge of their competition. It was rare to find someone on equal par and Light just may get the best of him sometimes but L was sure he'd win out in the endgame, even if that ultimate checkmate would come at a cost.
Every fifteen minutes, exactly as the clock struck the quarter hour, L would eat a lolly, keeping his eyes on the sleeping Light.
Two Kira. Three Kira. L was convinced that there really was only one source - Light Yagami. He swore if he was wrong in this then he would quit eating sweets and he would get some sleep.
Well, get some sleep anyway.
As L popped another lolly in his mouth, Light began to mumble in his sleep. L leaned forward to try to hear the words. He caught enough of it to amuse him. Light had to be awake, knowing L was observing him. Those words couldn't be true. Nobody rambled about their innocence in their sleep... Not so clever after all.
Watch and wait. That's what L had to do. Light had to slip up sometime - then he would pounce.
Bringing him to justice.
The biggest mistake that L made was not fully realising that Light's thoughts were just the same as his own.
