Summary: Yujinn is a fool in love.


Yujinn watches the search party return. Darres leads, and Ishtar rides sullenly behind him, half amused, half annoyed. The horses disappear into the stables, and Yujinn sits in his chair.

Darres is a fool, he thinks, for not realizing how Ishtar feels about him. She escapes and teases him because she knows he'll protect her, he'll find her. Darres is a fool, Yujinn thinks, because he doesn't realize how he feels about Ishtar.

Yujinn rubs his forehead. He's the fool in this mess. He's fallen for Ishtar, because she loves Darres. Yet he's also fallen for Darres, because he loves Ishtar.

Familiar footsteps ring in the stone hallway, and Yujinn stands up and crosses the room, with a smile that comes too easy. "Oh, Darres, did you lose the princess from under your nose again?" He laughs as Darres glares at him.

"I didn't notice you helping any," Darres says. "Lady Ishtar is safe now, at home."

"Until she sneaks out again," Yujinn says, a false mirth in his eyes. "Maybe you should let me put a magical tracing charm into a piece of jewelry, to add to her collection."

Darres almost takes him seriously, but he shakes his head and walks off.

"Yuujel, you are such a fool," he whispers.

Bittersweet and therefore lovely - because yes, they're all fools in their own way, but it's what makes them human (and the great characters they are).

Honestly, I'm not sure about the Ivan/Dono fic - could be um slashfest? I write Ivan/Byerly more often, as in: more than once, really. Don't seem to have stored any Ivan/Dono in my own memories either, so maybe it wasn't me.
