Advice?
Make a list of all the prompts that you might be interested in, even if you don't think you'll write it, and keep it somewhere in your computer/about your person. You never know when inspiration will strike.
Write as much as you can before the month even starts. This way you'll be less stressed about the ones around the end of the month.
Talk to your friends! Sometimes tehy're the best inspiration.

Advice?

Leave your sanity by the door. No, seriously.

OKAY, BEING MORE OBJECTIVE.

Make a list of any and all prompts that might have pinged you. Then, do an actual trimming. Be honest with yourself about what you may write and what you most likely won't. You may also want to try new things or situations.

Start writing -or drawing - the moment you have your list, that way you can leave March for the prompts that you've not finished.

Get yourself a cheering squad. Your friends can be awesome about this, even if they might cackle about your impending doom.

HAVE FUN. If a prompt is not quite working for you, give it a twist.

Don't let the prompts intimidate you. You can write this - or draw this - and still be amazing.

Don't bite off more than you can chew, so to speak. There are a lot of great prompts and, as other people have said, make a list! Just remember the rest of your responsibilities and how they're going to affect your ability to write. For example, I'm a graduate student and during November I had a ton of school-related responsibilities, whereas for March, I have spring break (which will be a great reprieve and a chance to write more for this), but also a few papers and whatnot due. Evaluate your schedule and then decide how much you want to drive yourself crazy.

Again, be careful and decide what you really want to do and you know that you'll have time to do. There are tons of prompts (wow, people-- seriously? I about died at the number this round) and so plenty to choose from. It's oodles of fun to write and then see what others write.

You don't have to pick up everything you want right now! If there's a prompt that you think might be really popular, sure, but not EVERYTHING. Pick up a couple, write them, and pick up some more later. You can claim right up until the day the story is meant to be posted.

My Advice

don't take prompts for a fandom you're not feeling interested in anymore. this won't help you revive your love for it and you'll just stare at your claim going, "Crap, why did i think this was a good idea?"

don't claim more than four or five your first round. (unless you're participated in this sort of thing before.) you may be able to handle it, but it's really most likely that you won't and then you look like that overexcited rookie that got shot during their first month of work.

don't be afraid to write something rated G-PG13. yes, the community encourages pronz and kink but it doesn't require them. i didn't even write anything remotely smutty until last round, but i've gotten some excellent reception for the things i did write.

If you can, write your stories in the order you'll be posting them. That way if your last prompt ends up being a monster epic that requires multiple posts, you'll still have your other prompts done.

My advice is to not bite off more than you can chew. There's no rule against only giving prompts, so if that's all you can do, then it's okay. But, if you think you can't/won't get anything done, then don't bother claiming anything to begin with (unless you're on a "power trip" ;) ).

If something catches your eye and you can do the work, then claim it quickly.

Expect nothing, especially if your prompts/writings are from small/obscure/quiet fandoms(like Star Ocean or Fire Emblem). I've seen a slew of prompts remain unclaimed and end up staying that way. If you want a prompt done badly enough, then write it yourself. Or, post them on other communities(I actually ended up with a slew of Final Fantasy 7 requests in [livejournal.com profile] yaoi_challenge in this manner).

Beyond that? Try to comment on the fic if someone does claim a prompt you wrote. I know it's not easy, but writers do appreciate some feedback.

Pretty much similar to everyone else.

Don't claim too many prompts. Even if you intend to work on them in February, you likely won't for one reason or another. If you do claim too many, don't feel ashamed if you have to drop one. This is only fandom; take care of IRL when need be.

Don't expect too terribly much feedback, but if you see a fic for a series you know that you didn't claim, try to give it a read. Everyone loves getting a little feedback, and it strengthens the community overall.

I really, really recommend that if you get any ideas for prompts for next round, write them up in a file so that you don't forget them. You may wind up, like me, staring in embarrassed pride/horror before posting--"128 prompts? When did I write those?" (Sorry [livejournal.com profile] moduno!) But if it gets claimed, you'll be pleased you did.

Thirding or whatever the list making. I tend to start with everything that remotely interests me. Then I shave it down a bit for ones I'm just not feeling, because unless you're doing 100 words a piece 40+ is a lot to do.

Actually, I'd known about [livejournal.com profile] springkink for 3+ rounds before I finally wrote for it. Each time I'd go "I won't claim outright, I'll just do them otherwise and then claim them as I finish them!" Spoilers: They never got finished. So I think you should claim a few to keep your mind on the challenge. Claim your favoritefavorites or the ones which are of a popular fandom which you're sure that there's going to be mortal combat over in the end. Keep the others you're interested in and do them once you're sure you'll have time for them.

Also remember that generally, the prompt will come around again. At least, unless it isn't too old and set for deletion.

Oh yeah, and not every prompt has to be an epic. Just remember that.

Hey, did I miss the post where we claim the prompts? It is close to noon.

You go to the prompt lists and leave a comment there. They are open for comments now and the claiming is underway. Don't forget to mention the date of the prompt and whether it's for art or fic.

Happy Claiming
