Ghost Hunt (Naru/Lin)

Rating: PG-13 for implied sexual activities in filing closets
Warnings: Really short.
Summary: Mai makes things ... complicated.
Before Mai, it was easy enough to steal a few moments of Lin's time - especially because on an ordinary day, when they're not on location for a job, Naru knows exactly where he can find Lin at any time of the day. Lin's routine is like a clockwork; he always goes out to lunch at the same time, always drinks tea at the same time, always comes by Naru's office to tell him to go home at the same time ...
He almost makes Naru feel a little guilty for making him break it, although the idea of Lin putting these kinds of things in his agenda is enough to make Naru grimace. Besides, Naru tells himself, it's good for Lin to have someone shake him up a little every now and then, to keep him from getting too complacent. A bit of payback for the looks Lin gives him whenever he takes an afternoon off or goes home early (thereby upsetting Lin's routine).
After Mai, things get a little complicated. As his assistant, Mai seems to think she's got a more or less free run of the office - and Naru doesn't quite think he can tell her to knock before entering because he and Lin might be having sex and thus prefer not to be disturbed. Mai makes pretty good tea though - lots better than Lin, not that Naru will ever tell either of them that - and she's useful.
Lin doesn't seem to like Mai very much - a natural result of his having hopped around on crutches for nearly two weeks thanks to her, Naru supposes. In return, Mai seems to be a bit wary of lin, which is good, because the last thing Naru wants is her and Lin comparing notes.
In the end, ignoring the morale of several faerietales, Naru tells Mai she can go wherever she wants in the office, as long as she promises to never open the file-closet without either him or Lin being present, in a tone of voice that doesn't invite questions. She promises easily enough, although he can tell from her expression she's just dying to know what's in there that he doesn't want her to see, so, to make things a bit easier for all of them, he shows her the file-closet right away, feeding her some lines about how Lin spends a lot of time keeping the files neat and organized, which she seems to buy.
(Of course, she ends up hearing Lin moaning his name one afternoon - prompting her to stand frozen in front of the file-closet for a good ten minutes before running off in search of either Lin or himself to tell them their office is being haunted, and prompting Lin to declare they'd better save these kinds of things for when they're at home.)
