* * *

“Don’t you worry one whit about your brother.” Serenity hugged Alphonse tightly, her lush breasts framing his face. Winry noticed Al didn’t seem to mind. He was very content to sit on the couch in a strange woman’s smoke-scented office with a young lady he barely knew fussing over him. “The girls and I will take care of him while you’re here in Central.”

“I think he’ll be better off in the hotel. Winry and I can take care of him,” Ed protested, leaning against a rosewood desk that belied its humble surroundings. Winry knew it was expensive. Her father had had one. Just what had Mr. Mustang gotten them into?

“There are just two of you,” Serenity argued. “There are bunches of us. We’ll never leave him alone if he doesn’t want us to.”

“Brother, I want to stay here,” Al said, his eyes tired. Winry knew he had to be at the end of his strength. He still was barely ambulatory.

“Of course you do, cutie.” Serenity squeezed Al’s too-thin frame again.

“But Al, it’s an apartment above a bar with a bunch of…”

“Bunch of what?” A sharp female voice brought both Winry and Ed’s attention to the doorway on the far wall. Standing there with Mustang was a large hard-faced woman Winry had only met once a few minutes ago.

A huge smirked, so reminiscent of the ones Winry had seen on Ed’s face over the years, spread across Mustang’s face. “Yes, Fullmetal, do tell.”

Winry heard the whine of finger servos. Ed did have anger issues with this man.

“Strangers,” Ed grated out. Winry was half surprised he didn’t just come out and say prostitutes.

“Do you know how many kids I’ve taken in over the years?” the woman asked.

“Not really,” Ed replied, stubborn set of the jaw in evidence.

“Enough to know what I’m doing.” She crossed over her desk and ground out her cigarette in a crystal ashtray.

“It’ll be all right, Edward.” Winry rested a hand on his shoulder. “You know Mr. Mustang wouldn’t put Al in bad place.”

Ed grunted at her. “We can come over, too, right?”

“Naturally,” the woman replied.

“Okay,” Ed consented after gauging his brother’s face.

“You look like you could use a bed, Alphonse,” she said. “But first, do you think you could eat a little?”

“It would be a good idea, Al,” Winry said.

Al nodded, his long hair swaying. They hadn’t cut it yet and binding it back hurt his scalp – Al was terribly sensitive – so they let it loose. He glanced over at the woman. “I wouldn’t mind some lunch. The colonel said you’re Madam Christmas.”

“That’s me.” She turned to Mustang who nodded. “But you can call me, Chris, young man, Chris Mustang.”

“Hell, are you the bastard’s mother?” Ed cried, looking at Roy in absolute horror.

“Technically she’s my aunt,” Roy said. “But she raised me when my parents died.”

“She’s my mom, though,” Serenity said.

“So there are more of you.” Ed groaned.

“Oh yes.” Roy grinned. “Come on, let’s get your brother fed.”

Ed glared but he and Winry helped Al up out of the office couch, letting him walk slowly down the hall back into the public area of the bar. A blond young man was behind the bar and Christmas indicated for Edward to help his brother to the bar stool.

“Jon, get Alphonse some of the chicken and dumpling soup,” Chris said, turning back to Al. “Do you feel up to a sandwich? The soup is pretty hearty.”

“I’ll start with the soup,” Al said as Winry helped Ed to make sure Al was situated well on his stool.

Jon moved out from behind the bar to go fetch soup. He waved Serenity to follow with the words, ‘lunch crowd will be here soon.’ He came back alone with the bowl, sliding it in front of Al. Jon smiled over at Winry and Ed. “Anything I can get for you, cutie? Soup? A beer? Something more mysterious?”

Roy choked. “Jon, there is nothing mysterious about you. You’re as blatant as they come.”

Winry blushed. “Thank you.”

Jon lifted his pale eyebrows. “You are cute, sweetie, but I was talking to the bit of walking sunshine next to you. He’s sweet.”

Al laughed so hard he nearly fell off his stool. Winry steadied him, trying not to laugh as well.

Ed sputtered. “I’m what?”

“Jon, there is literally nothing sweet about Edward Elric. He’s a little bottle of acid,” Roy said.

“WHO ARE YOU CALLING SO SMALL HE COULD FIT IN A BOTTLE?”

“I see you didn’t exaggerate the boy’s loudness.” Christmas rubbed her ear. She dropped her manicured hand onto Ed’s shoulder, plum-hued nails tapping against the metal. “Don’t worry; Roy boy wasn’t much bigger at your age. He’s not exactly a tall man, took after his Xingese momma.”

“The difference is, Madam, I’m confident in my manhood. Fullmetal sees himself as a kid,” Roy smirked again, destroying the overly sweet tone of his words.

“I do not.”

Roy waved him off, turning to Jon. “Al’s the sweet one, Jon, but he doesn’t need you flirting with him.”

“Ooo, listen to the military man so full of orders.” Jon snorted at Roy, moving to the other end of the bar as customers came in for lunch.

“Did he just flirt with me?” Ed snarled.

“He’d like to lick you and see if you’re sweet.” Roy flicked his tongue at the back of his own hand to demonstrate.

“But why? I don’t like men.”

“Who could tell?” Roy shrugged. “You’re always with them and no one ever sees you with a woman.”

“What? Is Winry invisible?” Ed flung out an arm, nearly hitting her.

Roy studied her then smiled. “No, she’s nicely visible. Maybe you should act more romantic around her.”

Ed flashed an obscene gesture. “Don’t you be looking at Winry, you old pervert.”

Roy sighed. “Madam, was I this big of a pain in the ass at his age?”

The older woman let out a bark of laughter. “Yes. Why do you think I palmed you off on Hawkeye?”

Roy’s shoulder’s sagged. “You were supposed to say no.”

Chris snorted. “Miss Rockbell, why don’t you come with me? I’ll show you the apartment while Edward takes care of his brother. That way, if there is anything you need, we can get it fast.”

Winry nodded. “Of course.” She cast a glance back at Ed. He was obviously still displeased the bartender – Mustang’s brother? – had taken him for gay. She had her plans for changing Ed’s image.

* * *

“Ed, please stop.” Al held up a hand from where he rested on the bed in his new apartment. He glanced over at the wing backed chair that faced the window, a warning look on his face. “We don’t need to hear.”

Winry could tell Ed wouldn’t listen. He was too incensed. Obviously, his meeting with the would-be emperor of Xing hadn’t gone very well and Ed wasn’t letting her or his brother get much of a word in edgewise, not even to warn him.

“No, you have to hear what that rat bastard prince did,” Ed raged. “Or maybe if was Greed. Doesn’t fucking matter. I should have killed him.”

“That would have been a problem since you’re supposed to be helping to strength ties with Xing,” Winry said, wondering, not for the first time, at the wisdom of putting that responsibility on Ed and his temper.

“You don’t understand.” Ed flopped down on his brother’s bed, nearly taking out Al's legs. The bed springs screamed and Al glared but Ed was oblivious to both in his ire. “Ling kissed me!”

Of all the complaints Winry had been entertaining Ed might have about Ling, that one never entered her mind. She had to clamp a hand over her mouth to hold in the amusement, glancing over to the wing backed chair.

“What did you do to him to make Ling do that?” Al’s grin threatened to split his head in two and the look Ed gave him said it all; He never expected that reaction from his brother.

“Nothing! Ling said I needed to loosen up then he kissed me and stuck his hand down my pants!”

Al gaped then dissolved into giggles. Winery’s shoulders shook as she restrained herself.

Ed practically vibrated through the mattress, his wrath barely contained. “It’s not funny. You don’t know what he did next.”

“I bet I can guess.” Roy peeked around the arm of the wing backed chair he had been curled up on.

Ed sat bolt upright. “What the hell are you doing here, bastard?”

“Visiting Al.”

“Is that what we’re calling it? I thought you were hiding from your mother.” Winry eyed him sourly.

“And Riza.” Roy nodded.

“Why didn’t you warn me he was here?” Ed glowered.

“We did. What do you think all the ‘shut up, Ed’s’ were for?” Al rolled his eyes.

“So, Ed, how was it? Xingese princes are notoriously well trained.” Roy beamed. “And with an ancient homunculus trapped inside him I can only imagine.”

“Go to hell. Get out of here, you pervert.”

“I own this place, Fullmetal. I bought it for my mom. I stay if I want.” Roy’s jaw jutted out.

Winry caught hold of Roy’s arm, tugging. “Do you want a third woman angry at you?”

Roy heaved a huge sigh but rolled to his feet. “Fine. I need to go to the confectioners and the florist any how. Alphonse, would you like anything while I’m gone?”

“Bring me something from the candy shop.” Al’s eyes lit up and Roy nodded, heading out.

“He will torment me forever. Why didn’t you say something?” Ed slapped Al’s leg lightly.

“Again what did you think ‘stop’ meant?”

“That’s not a warning. ‘Hey, the bastard’s hiding in a chair,’ now that’s a warning,” Ed grumbled. “I just don’t get it. Why does this keep happening to me?”

“Well, Greed is Greed,” Al said. “He probably wants to sleep with all of us or worse.”

Ed snorted. “True. It’s just…I don’t want a reputation for sleeping with every guy in a hundred miles.”

Al roared with laughter. “No chance of that, Ed.” He yawned. “Most people still think you’re a virgin, including me.”

Winry wondered if her face was as red as Edward’s. Ed sputtered at his brother, shoving Al’s head down in the pillows.

“Shut up.” Ed let Al go. “You look exhausted. Al, if you’re tired, tell people. Run that bastard out, if he’s keeping you up and bothering you.”

“Edward, you should be nicer. We owe Roy,” Al said, smoothing back his rumpled hair.

“I know and I hate it.”

“And he owes us. None of us would have survived without the other,” Al added, making Winry shudder. “Besides, I like when he visits.”

“Really?” Ed sounded honestly surprised.

“Yeah. If you spent less time aggravating him, you’d realize, Roy’s really smart. He knows a lot of alchemy you and I haven’t even begun to study and I don’t mean the fire stuff. He says he’ll never teach that.” Al shifted, drawing the covers up to his chin. “And he’s funny. Besides, he’s being nice by visiting. Don’t you think the colonel has better things to do than visit me?”

“Yes, apparently getting on the bad side two scary women.” Ed grinned.

Al chuckled more. “I could be bribed into telling you what he did,” he said, yawning again.

“You’re my brother. You should tell me for free,” Ed protested as Al’s eyes shut. “Tell me later. Get some sleep, Al. Winry and I will leave you alone for now.”

“’kay,” Al mumbled.

Winry took Ed’s hand leading him out into the tight living room area of the apartment. She gave him a curious look then asked, “Want to go somewhere we can talk?”

“Yeah. But not about Ling,” he grumbled.

“Walk me back to my hotel,” Winry suggested.

Ed nodded, easing out of her grasp. Outside, the noon sun was bright but no where near as hot as Rush Valley’s sun. After everything they had been through, Winry wasn’t about to complain about a little sunlight. Ed didn’t talk on the way, lost in his thoughts. She knew what they were about. For someone who didn’t want to talk about being groped by a homunculus, Ed was spending a lot of mental energy on the problem. It was the reason, well one of them, that Winry wanted to take Ed to her place. It wasn’t that far from the bar, something that had initially bothered Ed. He was afraid it might be too close to a rough part of town but Roy assured him that he had not put his mother in an area where she and his sisters were likely to get knifed or shot.

He walked her to the second story room. Her suite overlooked a pretty courtyard. Winry gazed out the window while he flopped on the couch. “Ed, coming over to talk means you actually have to talk to me.”

“Do you think I’m gay?”

The seriousness of the question left her nearly breathless. Winry turned to look at him. “I think you’re a bit weird but no, I’m pretty sure you’re not gay.”

He turned wounded golden eyes on her. “Weird?”

“What would you call reciting the periodic table every time I get close?” Winry sauntered over, towering over him.

Ed’s cheeks pinked up. “It was the only way to keep something embarrassing from happening.”

Leaning down, she planted a hand on either side of him. Her hair tickled his face. “Who said it had to be embarrassing?”

His voice box bobbed as Ed swallowed hard. “I didn’t have time for anything like that, Winry. I had to save Al. I couldn’t be distracted.” He shuddered, a little sigh escaping. She felt his breath curl along the skin of her face. “I wanted to. Damn, sometimes, I just wanted to come home. That time in your bedroom, do you know how many times I’ve daydreamed about that, only then there wasn’t any idiot homunculi or chimeras hiding out with me, no soldiers guarding you. Sometimes Granny still interrupts even in the damn dream.” He snorted. “My brain’s messed up that way.”

Winry laughed, sitting on his lap. “You came very close to getting a free show that day. I should have beaten you harder.”

Ed put his arms around her. “You hit me plenty hard.”

“You deserved it, breaking into my bedroom like that. Who knows what you might have been doing in my drawers when I wasn’t around.” Winry tapped his nose as she rocked on him a little. If working on his automail could lead to ‘embarrassing’ things, what would a few direct flirtations do?

“Winry! I didn’t do anything. How could you think that?”

“You’re a boy and that’s what they do.”

“Now I’m worried about what went on in Rush Valley.” Ed’s hand slowly trailed over her back.

“Work, trust me. Not much more than work.” Winry rubbed his arm. “It really bothers you, doesn’t it? Jon and Ling and whoever else might think you’re interested in them.”

Ed leaned his head back against the couch. “Doesn’t it bother you to have guys hitting on me?”

Winry grinned, tickling her finger down his chest. “Actually, it’s sort of arousing to have so many people think you’re attractive enough to make a play for. Too bad they don’t know what I know.”

“Which is?” Ed shifted under her. Winry could feel him getting hard.

“That I suspect you might want me to be the one doing the touching.” She pressed her lips to his and Ed folded her close, his arms tight around her.

“More than you could ever know,” he whispered, rocking his hips up into her, sending a frisson of lust racing through her.

“Good.” Winry sealed her lips over his, thrusting her tongue deep into his mouth. She slid her hand down his belly and into his waist band. Winry stroked what she could of his cock from her position. Ed jerked, surprised.

“Winry…”

“So, was that better than how Ling did it?” She smirked, stroking him again. The shaft felt nearly feverish under her calloused fingers. When Ed didn’t answer right away, still gaping in shock, Winry tickled his member, feeling it twitch.

“So much better,” he rasped.

“See, no periodic tables.” Winry slid off his lap onto the couch so she could get his zipper down. “We’re making progress.”

“Winry, I don’t…” Ed caught his lower lip between his teeth, literally biting off the words. “I don’t have any condoms.”

Getting his pants open, Winry palmed the head of his cock. “One step at a time, Edward. We’ll have plenty of time to figure it all out as we go. And if someone thinks you’re gay, just grin because you know who you’re coming home to.”

Ed pulled her in for another kiss, his hand sneaking into her shirt. “You…it’s always been you.”

Aw, the end was really sweet. Roy is a wonderful brat, and Ling is, well, Ling. XD I love it.

I really like the twist of the ending, but my favorite lines had to have been:
Roy sighed. “Madam, was I this big of a pain in the ass at his age?”

The older woman let out a bark of laughter. “Yes. Why do you think I palmed you off on Hawkeye?”

Roy’s shoulder’s sagged. “You were supposed to say no.”

Mwahahaha! This was Much Fun!

I love my story!

I agree, Chris saying Roy was just as bad is hysterical. So is Roy hiding out in Al's room from both his angry mother and Hawkeye. :D

Glad Winry took things into her own hands...er. Pardon the pun.

I like it bunches.

Roy always does in your stories.

Winry's a smart, smart girl.

I think I giggled through this whole thing. EdWinry is a new pairing and fandom for me, but I thought this story was wonderfully written, especially the slight taste of what was to come at the end of the story. Great job and thanks for sharing!

I hope you feel better now, and thank you. I have so much love for Castle, too!

This was so cute. I was laughing the whole time. And the ending was totally sweet! Well done! =)

New to the fandom and I've just devoured a whole bunch of your stories in this community. This one and Sugar were my favourites. You get their characterisations so perfect! Funny, clever, sweet and hot, all of them. I especially love your awkward teenaged Ed.

Thanks for posting them. I hope you'll write more for the next round of springkink!

Yay! Also, I just realised the preggers!Riza one was you too and I just adored that. So sweet and hopeful even with all of their scars.
