Title: Possibilities
Author:

Rating: G
Warnings: None
Word count: 308
Prompt: xxxHOLIC, Clow/Yuuko: AUs of any sort - and each of the dreams, you and I were together
Summary: There must be a world where they can be fully happy, where they don't have such a heavy burden to bear.
There are infinite worlds out there. This, he thinks, must mean that somewhere exists a place where they are together. If there are other versions of them out there, not all of them can have so little luck. There must be a world where they can be fully happy, where they don't have such a heavy burden to bear.
He dreams of them, sometimes. He cannot help it, but even if he had a choice about it, he isn't sure that he'd be able to stop. It's not real, not for him - it doesn't change his own reality. And yet... it's almost comforting, in a way, to see these glimpses of what could have been.
In one of these worlds, she's an expert racer. He designs and fixes her vehicles; she complains that they are too cutesy, but they work, and the combination of both their talents means she nearly always wins. They pretend not to be a couple, and no one believes them.
There is another one where he is a scholar and, although she claims to find the world of academia terribly boring, she takes great joy in reading and critiquing every single one of his works. It's just for the joy of seeing him complain, she says, but in truth her comments have helped him improve greatly.
Somewhere else, she is a shopkeeper and he cooks at a small restaurant. They come home after work to watch movies and cuddle with their cats, and their life is mundane but never boring.
There are so many worlds where they simply live, completely unaware of the infinite possibilities around them - of the sacrifices that their counterparts here were making so that all those realities were not threatened. He wonders, sometimes, if it is truly fair.
But then he realizes that it would not change anything.

Date: 2010-07-31 01:16 pm (UTC)I love the whole thing, but that sentence especially breaks my heart. And I don't care how much canon says otherwise, I'll always believe FWR was wrong and Clow knows better.
