Abby needed a break away from the lab. It didn't happened all that often but this wasn't really her lab so she was allowed to get a little frustrated with it all. She knew the NCIS LA crew were good guys but they were nothing like her team. Ah well, she'd be home soon.

Until then, she would just enjoy the club she was sitting in, drinking her energy drink. It might not be the usual drink of a choice in a Goth bar like this, but it did no more than raise an eyebrow. At worst, they probably thought she was a Baby Bat. Brain matter, her friend's band, piped over the sound system, singing about the idea of dying young. It wasn’t one of her favorite songs. She saw enough of dying young.

Resting back against the table, Abby's eyes swept over the crowd and alighted on a broad-shouldered man who seemed to have lost a battle with a bottle of hair gel. While he was rocking the black trench coat, black pants look, he seemed completely lost, like he didn't belong here. He had that vague look of panic Tim got when she dragged him to places like this.

She walked over to the man. “You look lost.”

He scowled. “I'm looking for someone but with the description I have, it could be half the women in here.”

Abby's eyes narrowed. “You don't know the person?”

“I'm a private investigator, Angel Investigations. I'm Angel.”

Relaxing at the legitimate reasoning for hunting down a woman he didn’t know, Abby looked him over. “Yes, I can see what.”

His eyes widened but to his credit he didn't blush. “I...uh, do you know Millarca?”

“Yes.”

“Really?” He seemed stunned.

“Yes, it was one of the anagrams that Carmilla used.” Abby smiled.

“Carmi…oh, vampire.” Angel sighed. “I haven’t read Le Fanu in a long time.”

“Sorry. This crowd loves taking on names like that and this is my first time here. Wish I could help you. I’m usually a big part of an investigation, but I’m not in the field side of things. I’m a forensic scientist.”

His thick eyebrows lifted as if her clothing had be used to pigeon hole as a Goth and he’d not considered she could be more. He shrugged it off. “I’m not in need of forensics. I’m sort of trying to prevent that. Her parents are afraid she’s in danger.”

“Tell you what, I can give you a hand. You’re very much an outsider here. They aren’t going to talk to you. Heck, they might not even talk to me since I’m new.”

Angel nodded. “Thanks. It’s worth a try. I don’t get clubs like this at all. I don’t get the appeal of pretending to be a vampire.” His lips twisted into a bitter line.

“This really isn’t a vampire club. This one is more about the music and the drama, the role-playing. I wouldn’t go to one of the actual vampire clubs,” Abby protested, her hands flying as she spoke. “The blood is icky. Okay, blood isn’t icky. I deal with blood every day. But the idea of drinking it, that’s just strange and I don’t want to think about being a donor. That’s really creepy.” She paused, seeing him smile. “What are you grinning about?”

“You remind me of my friends, Fred and Willow. It’s a good thing,” Angel assured her. “But you were right. I am an outsider here. I wasn’t sure where to start. My usual style wouldn’t have worked well.”

Abby wasn’t sure she wanted to know what his usual style was. “Okay, let’s see what we can find.”

It didn’t take Abby long before she tired of getting snubbed, lied to and hit on as she tried to help Angel. Was this what Tony, Gibbs, Tim and Ziva put up with daily? It was a wonder they weren’t even more weird than they already were. Finally, they found a boy who was probably not twenty-one and barely weighing in at a hundred pounds who took one look at Angel and sort of just folded up. Abby was fairly sure the kid would have given them his wallet had Angel asked.

“You know Millarca?” Angel asked and the kid bobbed his head fast enough Abby was expecting it to snap off and fly across the room.

“She was here earlier but she was having troubles with Maleficent so she went to Club Dead,” the kid said then tried to summon up a little bravery. “Is that all you wanted?”

“Where’s Club Dead?”

The kid told him an Angel’s scowl deepened and Abby followed Angel outside.

“Something is wrong,” she said. “Need me to help you at another club?”

“No, it’s the Club Dead I thought he meant. Trust me, it’s also not a Goth club. It’s a really dangerous place, some real demons in there.”

For a minute, she thought he was serious. Abby nodded. “We’ve tracked a few guys you’d swear were demons. Good luck. Wish I could have helped you more.”

“Don’t worry you did. Will you be back here? Doesn’t seem like your place, really, ” he said but his expression said he almost hoped she would say yes.

“No, I’m actually from the D.C. area. I’m out here on temporary duty with NCIS, LA branch,” she replied.

His brow furrowed. “NCIS?”

Abby pouted. “See, this is our problem. We don’t have the FBI’s name recognition. We’re the Naval Criminal Investigation branch. I’ll be going back to Virginia day after tomorrow. Too bad, I would have liked to have gotten to know you more.”

He smiled. “You might have been disappointed. Want me to wait until you get a cab?”

“I’ll be fine.”

Abby watched him walk off then turned her attention to the street, scanning for a cab. She heard footsteps and turned, hoping it might be Angel returning. Instead, there was this man but what the hell was wrong with his forehead? Was there a Star Trek convention in the area? Abby started to greet him in the Klingon Tim had taught her when he hit her. Abby went to the pavement, her vision swimming. The next thing she knew, Angel was kneeling beside her.

“Are you all right, Abby?”

“Ow!” She rubbed her chin. “Did you see that guy who hit me? There was something wrong with his face. Where did he go?”

“He ran off when he saw me double back,” Angel said. The wind blew some sandy dust past her. It had an odd texture. “I knew I should have waited.”

“Yeah, I’ll be okay, don’t worry about it.” Abby gave him a rueful grin. “You’d be surprised how many people have tried to kill me.”

“I know how that feels.”

Abby gave him a hug after he helped her up. Angel waited for the cab to arrive this time. Abby watched him melt into the shadows as she drove away. This was a night she would remember for a long time.

This is really good. I wouldn't have thought those two series could mesh, but it works. I really like the interaction between Abby and Angel. It's totally believable :D

Yay, my prompt! I love the interplay between them. I could imagine Abby going home and telling the gang about the "Tall dark and brooding", "Heathcliffy" type guy she met in L.A. :D

Yeah, you and me both. I'd been preparing to write a completely different fic than what's due today, and am kind of boggling, because now I have to get my mindset ready for het rather than slash. XD

And speaking of slash, I don't think this is flocked (http://devildoll.livejournal.com/820701.html). And you'll appreciate it. Maybe. XD
