Prompt: Fic- February 28-Axis Powers Hetalia - Japan/Taiwan: otaku romance - "We could recreate the cherry blossom confession scene from your favorite drama."
Summary: It had been made into an anime and a drama, but this shoujo romance was about to get real.
She had always been grateful to him, even when he had messed up all those years ago; trying to conquer her and bring her into his family, but, instead, falling for her and making her the jewel of his empire.
Now, even though times had changed, she still loved him, but knew that he was chronically awkward and didn't really know how to convey his feelings to her short of acting subtly perverted towards her. Taiwan wanted Japan back, though, and she thought she had found the means to do it: a TV drama that they both liked.
It was about the trials and tribulations of a group of teenagers in an ordinary Japanese high school, based off of a long-running shojo manga; though Japan had produced the anime version, Taiwan loved the original story so much she decided to get the top talents in her country to do a live-action adaptation, which which Japan was extremely impressed. They had managed to get the love dodecahedron of the original there in all its sweet and complicated glory; the raw emotion, the passion, and, above all, a scene where Rumi (Liu Mei in the Taiwanese version) confessed her love to her senior, Daisuke (whose name, for some reason or another, remained unchanged) under the falling blossoms of a cherry tree.
So here she was, dressed in her handsewn version of the school uniform from the show, under a cherry tree, waiting for Japan to show up. After about fifteen minutes, he finally did, dressed again in the gakuran from the show.
“It's about time!” Taiwan pouted.
“Forgive me, I had so many obligations at home.” Japan bowed deeply.
“You don't have to bow in front of me, you know. I was your jewel once.”
Japan, caught between an obligation to bow once more and Taiwan's exhortation he not, blushed. “Erm...so...let us commence this scene.”
“You know Daisuke's the aggressor, right?”
“Of course.” He blushed even deeper. Trying his damndest to get into character, he pushed Taiwan against the tree, though she could tell by his body language that he was reluctant himself to do so. Clearing his throat, he started Daisuke's line from the beginning of the scene: “The truth is, I've loved you for so long, Nakagawa-san!”
Taiwan, now not her usual boisterous self but the sweet-tempered Rumi, inhaled deeply, pretended to blush and stammered, “I...I...feel the same way, senpai!”
“Don't move,” Japan-as-Daisuke warned. “You're beautiful like that.”
And then, as if on cue, the cherry blossoms from the tree began to fall, cascading around the two of them, reminding them of the beauty and fleetingness of their feelings. Japan leaned in for a kiss, trying to channel Daisuke as he did so, so that he wouldn't feel all that awkward. Taiwan broke character for a moment to lean in and deepen the kiss, prompting Japan to lean more into her. They broke the kiss after a few seconds, both of them flushed and waiting for Taiwan-as-Rumi's next line.
“Senpai...I'm worried...I've also confessed to Nishide-senpai a few weeks ago, and we went on a date...”
“Don't worry,” Japan-as-Daisuke responded. “I assure you that nothing will come between us.”
Taiwan knew that, inasmuch as Japan himself could muster, that this line, even though it was a drama quote, was the most sincere aspect of his feelings for her.
She broke character for one last time and smiled.
