Title: Remembrance
Author/Artist: jessicamariek
Rating: G
Warnings: Spoilers like whoa for both games.
Word count: 545
Prompt: Final Fantasy X; Tidus/Yuna; Comfort Sex. Tidus takes Yuna to the temple to help her overcome her memories of fighting her Aeons.
Summary: She has her own way of marking the anniversary of the day they defeated Sin.
A/N: Late by two hours, sorry! Muse ain't playing nice lately. Also, this got a teeny bit off the prompt, but I hope it's all right. :)
He found her in the Chamber of the Fayth, sitting against the wall with her hands folded in her lap. Two stories above them, most of the town was still celebrating; the anniversary of the most recent Calm was traditionally the largest celebration of the year in Spira, three days of gifts and music and enough food to choke a Shoopuf. And yet here was the effective guest of honor, the last High Summoner, sitting alone in the dark under the temple.
She looked up, blinking, when he sat down next to her, and then smiled a little sadly.
“Hey,” Tidus said softly, reaching up to brush the hair out of her eyes. “Was wondering where you disappeared to.”
“Sorry,” she said. “I didn’t mean to worry you. It’s just…” She looked at the gaping hole in the floor where Valefor’s statue had once been, and sighed as she leaned against his shoulder. “I come down here every year. Just to remember for a little while… Goodness knows nobody else does,” she added sadly.
“Yeah.” He knew she missed the aeons badly – they’d been a part of her, their whispered voices in her mind since before she’d even come to Besaid. The bonds between them had been precious to her, precious as any of her Guardians, and that loss had stung. His own opinion of the fayth was somewhat different - heartless manipulative sons of bitches was a good start – but this wasn’t about the fayth. It was about Yuna, and losing them had left her hurting.
“Sometimes, I thought I could still hear her singing,” she said quietly. “And it helped a little to see the statue, to remember. But… after last summer…” She trailed off, and he pulled her closer as her shoulders started to shake. As if losing her aeons hadn’t been enough, she’d had to face them in battle as pawns of some undead lunatic with a grudge. There were scars on the walls of the chamber from Valefor’s magic during that battle, ugly scorched marks over the old paint and stone – Yuna had said that this one had been the hardest battle for her to fight, because they’d been so close. But she’d always been the type to hold in her own pain while she helped others through theirs, until it came out all at once. Like now.
After a while, she calmed down, her breathing slowed and the hand clenched in his shirt relaxed. She shifted slightly in his arms, resting her cheek against his shoulder, and she sighed again.
“Thanks,” she said quietly.
“Any time.” He felt the curve of her cheek as she smiled before raising her head. He turned to kiss her, drawing his fingers through her hair and down the back of her neck.
“So what’s the plan here, kiss me till I forget about being sad?” she asked after a minute. The playful, teasing tone to her voice was all the proof he needed that she’d be alright.
“Always worked before,” he said with a smile, kissing the side of her neck. She giggled, the sound echoing off the stone walls.
“Good point,” she said, leaning in to kiss him again, “but we could always use some more confirmation.”
