"We're ten minutes to drop-off. CAVOK," the pilot's voice crackled through the antiquated speakers.
When the C-17 lurched suddenly from air turbulence, Ominae Yu jerked awake with a snort and adjusted his pack. Once alert, he did an automatic final check of his equipment. "Jean. Did you turn off the coffee pot before we left?"
"Did I...what?" Jean's head snapped around, attention drawn from his own inspection.
"Coffee pot, did you turn it off be-"
"Why are you asking me? I had to swing by the armory to get our equipment procured. You were the last person at the flat.”
“Oh.”
“You mean you didn’t turn it off?”
“Yes. No.” Yu scratched his head. “I can’t remember.”
Jean sighed heavily and rubbed at his eyes. “I was the one who told you not to forget.”
“It was your idea to get a flat together to cut down on living expenses when we were in Belgium.”
“So my suggestion that we pool our resources is why you forgot to turn off the coffee pot?”
“Um…” Yu realized that was exactly what he was saying and frowned. He stood and made his way to the front of the aircraft and banged on the cabin door.
After brief exchange with the pilot, he waddled back to his seat and collapsed into it.
Jean stood and shifted his pack. He gave Yu a look and waited with a lifted eyebrow. “Well?”
“What?” Yu looked confused for a brief moment and when Jean glanced at the front of the aircraft, “ooooh, that. I told the pilot to turn us around.”
“You didn’t.”
“Five minutes to drop-off.” The pilot announced and the speaker squealed before clicking off with an eardrum splitting click.
Smiling, Yu stood and headed for the rear doors. He let Jean suffer from confusion before he laughed. “Nah. I had him call HQ and ask Yamamoto to contact our landlady.”
“Ah.” Visibly relieved, Jean went to join Yu, ready for their HALO. “So, did you pick up the living room? You remembered to put the surplus grenades in our safe, right?”
“…oh.”

Thank you so very much, I loved it :)

Date: 2007-07-07 02:54 pm (UTC)A lovely piece. It managed to recapture what I liked about these two. You are right in what you said about how they were so comfortable around each other. Kind of like a hand in glove partnership. ^__^ This could have pssibly been my first ever 'pairing' as it were. (A total manga/anime newbie then) Unfortunately Minekura owns me now!
Aah! Sorry to take up your review space for rambling.
Very well written, the dialogue captures perfectly how they are.

Date: 2007-08-07 12:06 pm (UTC)I like the comfy patter between the two: Realistic cuteness rocks, and the suggestion of a domestic life makes their interaction all the more amusing. =)
