Prompt: July 27-13. Final Fantasy VII, Sephiroth/Zack: Heroism - "Did you think I would leave you dying?"
Hero
As impossible as it had seemed, the fighting in Wutai was getting even more violent. A year ago, Sephiroth wouldn't have believed it possible. But as it seemed the end was coming, the people of Wutai became even more aggressive and willing to do whatever it took to to get the fighters of Shin-Ra out.
He vaguely recalled something about people who have nothing left to lose.
Right now, though, he was trying to get back with the rest of his squad. Most had been sent back earlier when they had first been herded into this ambush. He had ordered them too, thinking he'd be fine. Had spent most of the war that way, and he had not expected any different.
Didn't expect that summons, though.
Bleeding, hurt, and fighting a battle he was sure he was on the loosing end of, Sephiroth idly wondered, in the back of his mind, if dying would hurt, and if it was worth it to stay out of the labs.
Then there was a wild yell, and he found something, someone by his side, deflecting blades he hadn't even seen coming.
He knew that hair.
"Fair," he snarled. "Why are you here?"
"What? Here as not with the others?" A flash of a grin. "Did you think I would leave you dying?"
"I'm hardly dying."
"Seems like you were trying damn hard to do just that. Let's argue about this later, hmm? Cause -I'd- really like to not die, and since you're stuck with me, you can't die either."
There was something in that logic that didn't make sense, but Sephiroth did not have time to figure it out at the moment. "We'll discuss this later," he said finally, and focused on getting them both out of there alive.

Damnit, they weren't supposed to be fighting.
Officially, the Lord of Wutai had signed the peace treaty two days ago. Seph even went to the capital city to help witness and accept it, as the general of Shin-Ra's army. Zack had been left to help finish packing up the major camp. Get the people home before all of the men in the army revolted at having to stay here. Fresh troops were being sent in, and just enough senior fighters staying too keep the greenies from getting themselves killed.
At least, that was the plan.
Guerillas had swarmed out of the jungle just before dawn. If it hadn't been for the fact that most of camp was awake, getting last minute packing done while waiting for the planes to take them home, it would have been a slaughter.
Not knowing if the people they were fighting knew about the treaty, or if they just didn't care, Zack had done his best to get people together and fighting. There were dead and dying all around, theirs and his, and he hated it. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Wasn't going to make a damn bit of difference, and all these people dying for no reason.
Right now, though, he had his attention on more important things. Most of the SOLDIERs had gone. Either to play pretty parade fodder with the President or to help organize the other camps. Those who were left in camp seemed to be the prime targets, and Zack found himself the focus of far too many weapons and fighters.
It was a fractured flash of, well, everything. Everything was focused on keeping himself alive, and trying to take out as many of the people trying to kill him as he could.
The flash of silver was a surprise, and he stared in shock for a moment as Sephiroth stepped out of the chaos, blade dripping as he took out another of the enemy fighters. He was so surprised that he almost missed the sword coming at his back.
Almost.
"Zackary, I'd appreciate it if you did not get yourself killed after I came all this way," Seph said calmly, moving to help guard Zack's back.
"Seph, why are you here? Not that I'm not glad to see you. And don't call me Zackary."
There was an almost amused sound from the man, and Zack wasn't sure if it was at his question, or the protest over his name.

And *aw*, Sephiroth at the end, with his "I'm too busy kicking ass to act like I care so I'll be smart-assed except that I do totally care really but will never ever tell you", and whee.
