Kirika waits until Mireille returns home before she starts, and that implies a level of trust that the Corsican doesn't want to think about.

Click. Click. Click. Her brown hands disassemble the gun and lay out its parts, as clinical as a surgeon. Mirieille can't keep her eyes off it; her gaze keeps sliding away from her laptop back to Kirika's hands. They move with surety over the black metal pieces, quick and familiar, never lingering.

She must know Mireille's watching. Kirika always does.

I wonder where you learned that, Mireille wants to say, except she knows the way Kirika will answer - I don't know.

The day Kirika finds out will likely be the day Mireille kills her. You know that.

Yes, I know.

Kirika snaps the gun back together - click, click, click - and lifts it, scanning the room over the sight. The gun tracks its way to Mireille and, not worried, the blonde gives her a smile.
