FF7/Sailor Moon (Sephiroth/Sailor Saturn)
Oct. 1st, 2007 09:12 amTitle: Learning Curves
Author: belladonna12
Rating: R
Word count: 440
Summary: We all have our learning curves… some of them more interesting than others.
A/N: Well, some of these Sephiroth/Sailor Saturn ones are random, some are smut, and some, like this one, are interconnected. The interconnected ones focus more on the concept of Sephiroth, Hotaru, and family stuff, such as the OC son for the series, Hematite. Given the varying dates of the prompts, they’re out of order, so I’ll attempt to make a rough timeline of them in my LJ.
Disclaimer: I don’t own the ideas for FFVII or Sailor Moon, nor am I making any money off of this.
Prompt: Final Fantasy VII/Sailor Moon, Sephiroth/Sailor Saturn: Tenderness - “Strength and gentleness are not mutually exclusive.”
Learning Curves
“No.”
“He’s not going to break.”
“No.”
“You’re still seeing eight hours of bloody labor, aren’t you?”
“No I’m not.”
“I’ll threaten you with the Silence Glaive again.”
“Won’t work, Setsuna-Dono hid it. And I am not holding him, Hotaru.”
Sephiroth finished this statement while staring down at the wriggling, squirming, still slightly red face THING in the bassinette. It was not a baby, babies looked more… human. It had pale pinkish fuzz on its head, since its hair still hadn’t fully gotten all the blood and birth gunk washed out for some reason, though silvery white patches shone through. The large, deep blue eyes were cat pupiled and frigging huge, and it had a squashy look to it. Babies had more hair, and they definitely looked like creatures in the process of becoming humans. About then, the squashy face scrunched up even more, and an ungodly sound escaped the small thing, reminiscent of an air raid siren. Sephiroth jumped back a full three feet, eyes wide and glued on the thing while Hotaru laughed until tears came out of her eyes. Cloud would no doubt have found the scene mind boggling.
The great General Sephiroth, cowed by a crying baby.
“What does it WANT?” An undertone of panic was clear in Sephiroth’s voice. Hotaru laughed some more.
“He wants you to pick him up, Sephiroth.” Hotaru smiled, figuring she knew the heart of the problem. “Strength and gentleness are not mutually exclusive.”
Sephiroth eyed the wailing bundle warily, then cautiously advanced up to the crib. He tried desperately to put the baby into the frame of an assignment. A long term, handle with care assignment. Sephiroth picked the baby up, slightly alarmed at his laxness and lolling limbs and head, until Hotaru carefully corrected his hold.
“Works the same for human babies, though Sailor Scout babies are a bit tougher. Not by much, though, and Cosmos alone knows what you were like as a baby, so we don’t know how much of him is you.” The baby, quiet now, regarded Sephiroth with eerie calmness before happily drooling all over his leather trenchcoat and falling into floppy, limp baby sleep. Sephiroth held him close, marveling that such a tiny being could come from his wife and himself. He also vowed that the child would never lack for love, trust, and affection as he had.
“What did you say we named him again?”
“I named him, as you were out cold on the floor from the trauma of seeing a baby born. He’s Hematite.” Sephiroth smiled, slowly, delicately tracing the outline of the sleeping baby’s cheek.
“Hello, Hematite. I’m your father.”

Date: 2007-10-02 01:16 am (UTC)Oh god, just when I thought your fic last round was awesome, you go and write not one, but THREE incredibly romantic and IC fics for my fave pairing ever! Not only that, but you've got them all married and having a baby and AWWW SQUEE *snuzzles it*. I think this is my favourite of the three, just because it's both tender and hilarious... the line about Sephiroth being out cold on the floor from the trauma of seeing a baby born was AWESOME and is still making me giggle. =D

Date: 2007-10-02 02:54 am (UTC)And then there's the whole idea that Seph probably hasn't been exposed to many newborns, maybe not to many babies, so he doesn't have the foggiest what to do with small, attention demanding creatures, so unlike the large, grown attention demanding creatures. *Giggles.*

Date: 2007-10-04 01:50 am (UTC)And yes, I could see Sephiroth being adorably clueless about what to do with a child. Either that, or he'd OVERprepare by reading up on every single child/baby book he could get his hands on and treating the whole thing like some sort of mission procedure. I could see him, baby in one hand, a guidebook in the other ("If the baby cries, check the following. Is he fed? Is he warm? Is he ...?")
