Neon Genesis Evangelion (Kaji / Misato)

Warnings: Implied M/F sex.
Word count: 407
Prompt: Neon Genesis Evangelon, Kaji/Misato: Courtship - "Look into the abyss."

For Misato, he started breaking his own rules. It wasn’t that he wanted to settle down with her, make a life somewhere. Kaji wasn’t that sort of guy. It wasn’t even the sex – though that wasn’t something he would ever complain about. It was just that, when he was looking down at her, the depths of her eyes seemed to just pull him in.

Since he could remember, he’d promised himself that he’d never get attached – there were too many things going on, too many backs to stab and his own to watch. It was just the urgency in how she called his name – the way her nails dug red lines along his shoulders as she clawed. It was wild. They didn’t talk much. They had a lot of sex.

Still, here when she was bucking her hips up against his or her thighs squeezed his midsection hard enough to steal breath, he could feel the attachment. Not just the endorphin release that fools your brain – he knew all about that. This feeling came from somewhere just behind his heart, attached to strings that she could pull with a look. She never closed her eyes – even when they were kissing. Here, even, when his breaths were ragged and hers colored with moans and both accentuated by the creak of the cheap bed frame over cheaper floorboards in his low rent apartment, he had to remind himself – distance.

If he told the truth – and he never did – he would have said it scared him a little. He could distance himself from anything – just take his mind away by thinking about the last cracker budget porn film he’d seen, repeating a dirty joke over and over in his mind until even words lost meaning. Misato could distract him from his distractions; her looks just penetrated straight through, froze his thoughts and called his body to attention without even the need for commands.

It scared her, too, but they were both intoxicated by it. They flung themselves together in closets, the back seats of cars, anywhere they could possibly find a little privacy and perhaps some room to move. They didn’t have to talk that way – each daring the other to close their eyes first. They didn’t have to admit how terrified they were of looking into the abyss, finding it looking back, getting more than they bargained for or wanted.

In the end, it was Kaji who was blinded.

Whoa. I'm... amazed. This is so IC it hurts, and I love it ^____^ They were my het OTP from that series, so long ago! (Now that I think about it... my het OTPs can be count with the fingers of a single hand). Without a doubt, you did them justice! Congrats!

Wow, I finally got around to reading it, and I must say I loved it ♥. Very fitting, interesting characterization of Kaji, Misato and them as a couple. And you caught that helpless, hopeless, severly messed up feeling of the series.

So, thank you very much for writing this! ♥
