Title: Sweetness
Author/Artist:
syvia
Rating: R
Warnings: non-explicit sex... and fluff
Word Count: 1612
Summary: Kaylee's never wanted for company- until she met Simon.
Notes: This is not that scene with River watching them. I drove myself nuts trying to figure out where in the ship they were macking, and all I could figure out after an hour of flipping from scene to scene was that Kaylee moved her frigging hammock. So! This happened before that scene. Kaylee, with Simon, in the Engine room. *slaps down her checklist and triumphantly shows off the cards in the 'confidential' envelope*
Prompt: - Firefly/Serenity, Simon/Kaylee: First time - "She wants to know if his hands will be awkward and trembling, or skilled and assured like a surgeon's."
Kaylee had never been shy. Even as a little one, when she wanted something, she wasn't afraid to ask for it, or work for it, or, if it was being offered, accept it.
It was having to wait for something that got to her.
She wasn't one to get aggressive if someone wasn't interested- back home there were so many interested that she'd been buying contracep pills since her sweet sixteenth- laid them in stock, like, for the future.
When she was seventeen, she was glad of that.
When she got to Serenity there was a lot less opportunity. Cap'n was pretty, but more like her favorite big brother than someone she could get sweaty with. Wash was the silly cousin and he'd been sweet on Zoe since she got there. Jayne was interested... and big, but... naaaaaah. Only cause trouble.
Kaylee heard Inara say she took female clients, and she'd thought about it, 'course, but she didn't get mushy and brainless for womenfolk- and Inara didn't service crew. After thinking about it that way, it made sense to imagine Zoe, but she was just as run-tse duh in her way as the Cap'n- and sorta Inara- and she liked Wash as much as Wash liked her.
Sometimes there was a passenger, or an interested townie when they stopped long enough planetside. Her pills still saw use and she weren't hardly lonely with everyone onboard.
Then Simon got there.
And he was so pretty.
He had hard muscles and soft skin under those nice clothes- Kaylee got to touch them accidentally. He smelled fine- like her daddy had on Sundays. He was sweet to her- well, he'd been nice enough. Then River made sure he would be around for a while- they got to know one another (she got to touch his hard muscles and soft skin with his permission, with him reaching out first, or sitting next to her).
She realized how sweet he could be when he got comfy with a person.
There were opportunities later, but the more she got to know Simon, the less she looked at other prospects. The more she knew Simon, the more she wanted to know- not to mention that he was there. He had more or less signed on, as good as family after just a few weeks and was it really yu bun duh for her to think she could get as lucky as Wash and Zoe? If they could make a life for themselves, who was to say she couldn't do it with Simon?
But hun dan he was slow to relax. Maybe if River hadn't been his worry- but that's what had gotten him on Serenity in the first place, and it was why he stayed. He was there and he was nice and he seemed interested but he wasn't... interested. Not like the boys back home.
It was frustrating as hell.
Inara gave her a toy and a few suggestions about technique on her birthday. It was marble gold-y colored (which just proved that everything Inara had or gave to other people was pretty) and had a switch that made it warm as a person would be on top of vibrating.
It didn't make her want Simon any less (she usually thought about him during), but it made her less antsy.
Then Inara left and the Cap'n got meaner than he usually was. Shepard Book left. Then they got Inara back. Then they lost the Shepard. Then Wash.
Then they were trapped in a shoot-out with the Reavers.
Then Simon said...
Well she sure as hell weren't gonna die when she could look forward to that.
Then they lived- and at first she felt so guilty.
She'd lived- but the Shepard hadn't, and Wash hadn't. Sometimes Kaylee thought she'd have given anything for Zoe to be herself again- to smile like she used to. To not walk around like there was a huge knife stuck heart-deep inside her.
Then she and Simon and Zoe were working on the bridge one day- and even though they hadn't said anything about it since, Kaylee remembered all the times Simon'd managed to relax, all the little touches and all the great big 'uns and she'd felt so aware of where he was.
He'd look at her, and it made her feel so warm.
Then she'd glance at Zoe, and she couldn't look at him anymore.
Simon went off somewhere else and Zoe didn't look at her, but she said, "He made you wait for so long- now you're paying him back?"
Kaylee flinched. "Uh-"
Zoe smiled at the console she was fiddling with. "You've got the boy, Kaylee. You oughtta take 'im."
Then she blushed, but smiled a little, and it was okay. When she thought about Simon, she didn't feel so guilty anymore. She could grin when he looked at her- and she could look right back.
She wanted to know what his hands would feel like on her skin. Skilled surgeon's hands... but maybe he wasn't that experienced. Even if he'd had girls back in the Core... probably flinging themselves at him and his fancy doctor self- maybe he'd still never actually...
Well that idea was pretty exciting too. She could show him things- Kaylee knew he was a fast learner. She could show him what she liked and they could both figure out what he liked. She was so ready that it felt like they'd been teasing for days before they were even alone in the same room.
But today- today.
Maybe.
He'd come to help her with... anything she needed doing. Kaylee was so close to telling him just what she wanted doing, but they worked before they played- always.
"I dunno," she grinned as he ducked under the hatch, "you might get your fancy shirt all sweaty- heavy lifting 'n all."
He glanced at her, at the look on her face, and smirked, slow and knowing.
"Well, we can't have that, can we?" Then he took it off.
Wuh de ma he was pretty. She liked her men with muscles, yes she did, and Simon had 'em. Pretty body to go with his sweet manners and his sweet heart and there was just enough mischief to prove he probably didn't lie straight on his back at night with his arms folded over his chest.
They kept working- work before play- but she knew, all while she was giving him directions (move this- tighten up this one- keep this steady) that his shirt was off, and he knew she knew, and they were both getting sweaty from working and from the heat of the engine so close- and she just kept thinking about his hands.
He was so good with his hands. He stitched people up and took out bullets, he could shoot a gun and calm his sister's raving (a lot less now than he'd used to have to).
He could touch her. He could lace her fingers in his, he could fold his hands over hers and stroke them over her breasts and-
"Kaylee?"
She hadn't told him what came next. She was just standing there, staring at his hands.
He saw the look on her face and they both moved forward, reaching, and he knew without her saying anything.
She thought they slowed coming in- so they wouldn't bump like teens and hurt- they knew enough not to do that. Their lips met easy, pressing harder as they felt more sure of themselves and each other, and she felt like she was pouncing even when he laid over top of her and kissed her like there was no such thing as enough. The metal grill of the walkway bit into her shoulder blades, but it was good- home and Serenity and she always felt everything more when she felt the hum of the generator on her skin- close to her heart thrumming through her veins with her blood and no way she wanted to be anywhere else. Not now his heart was on one side and Serenity on the other and Kaylee didn't think she could last long at all, helping him get her out of her clothes and helping him out of his.
They tore at each other like they'd been teasing for hours- days- and they had, without touching. His fingers were gentle and firm where she needed them to be, and he did most of the unclothing- he was good with his hands.
They didn't get undressed all the way- eager as kids- but then he was inside her and her breathing was heavy and gasping and she got to feel all those lovely muscles under her fingers and heels and he didn't stop kissing her. Good- so good. She urged him on with little noises and her own hips flexing, pulling him deeper. He said her name over and over, talking into her skin, pressing into her with words and him and they both knew he was here, and he didn't want to be anywhere else.
Then they were somewhere else- the world exploded and she couldn't see- good, so good and warm, tingling all over. She was still warm and tingling and she probably had marks on her back but it wouldn't be the first time. She was gonna make sure it wasn't the last.
He stared down at her, face soft and not smiling, but gentle, happy in that quiet way he had sometimes. "Are you okay?" He brushed a lock of hair away from her eyes and didn't pull away.
She smiled at him, lazy, cat-in-cream, and pulled him down again to show just how okay she was.

Date: 2007-10-10 07:59 pm (UTC)I like the bit with Zoe - very sweet and just a little sad.
The metal grill of the walkway bit into her shoulder blades, but it was good- home and Serenity and she always felt everything more when she felt the hum of the generator on her skin- close to her heart thrumming through her veins with her blood and no way she wanted to be anywhere else.
Fantastic description there! Great job!
