On the whole tag issue, I'm wondering if the author name tags are that important? Because while browsing the comm, I tend to only search by fandom/pairing, and if I want more by an author I'd check their personal journal? Although that's just me. Dates also seem a little bit superfluous, but less so if you're trying to find the fic that was written for you specifically. (That is -- I know I requested something for feb 15, so if I'm late in checking it's easier to find it again... but in that case, I would hopefully also know what fandom/pairing I requested it for?)

Just my own two cents. ^^;;

Here's two cents on the other side - as a reader, I use the author tag every bit as much, maybe even more so. There are certain writers whose stuff I'll read regardless of fandom, just because they're great writers. I often refer people to this comm based on author, so that's how they find the work.

Also, for people just discovering the comm, and they read a new piece and really like it, odds are they are going to click on the author's tag to see if they've submitted anything else.

I'd really hate to see the author tags go. The date tags? Never once used them, but that's just my own experience.

Yeah, date tags are probably more useless unless you're one of the recipients. So clearing the date tags would add another couple of slots for fandom tags. I think there are more authors than dates though, and the number of authors will only go up. :/ Stupid 1000 tag limit.

I'm kind of the opposite, I guess, where I always get sad/disappointed if an author writes outside of my fandoms because I just can't read something if I don't know the characters. And I get into moods for a certain pairing/fandom, which is why I like those tags more XD

:/ I guess because the comm is way over 1000 tags? That's lame. >(

As an absolutely last case scenario (once both authors and dates are gone, I guess...) I could see the pairings being removed and being sorted only by fandom, which is fine for small fandoms that only have like two or three fics anyway but would get annoying in the bigger ones. :/

Going over the list though, here's some more that could be safely removed:

final fantasy viii; irvine/squall; brush - 0 uses <-- :O no uses anyway

"ffvii rufus/reno" should be "final fantasy vii: reno/rufus"
"final fantasy vii: zack/cloud" and "final fantasy vii: cloud/zack" could be merged
all the "final fantasy vii/ac" tags could be just "final fantasy vii" and merged with those
"final fantasy vii: sephiroth/zack/cloud" and "final fantasy vii: sephiroth/zack/cloud/" are the same thing

"final fantasy xii: basch/balthier" is the same as "final fantasy xii: balthier/basch"
"final fantasy xii: balthier/fran" is the same as "final fantasy xii: fran/balthier"

"fullmetal alchemist: ed/roy" is the same as "fullmetal alchemist: roy/ed"

"good omens: aziraphale/crowley" is the same as "good omens: crowley/aziraphale"

"kingdom hearts: cloud/leon" is the same as "kingdom hearts: leon/cloud"
"kingdom hearts: roxas/axel" is the same as "kingdom hearts: axel/roxas"
"kingdom hearts: saix/vexen" is the same as "kingdom hearts: vexen/saix"
"kingdom hearts: xigbar/luxord" is the same as "kingdom hearts: luxord/xigbar"
"kingdom hearts: zexion/lexeaus" is the same as "kingdom hearts: lexaeus/zexion"

These don't need to be cut, but seem a bit inconsistent; all other tags don't include the "ii" part, and the general "kingdom hearts" tag isn't used anywhere else, and I don't think we have general fandom tags anyway? :O
kh2/ffxii: luxord/balthier - 1 use
kingdom hearts - 2 uses
kingdom hearts ii: demyx/auron - 1 use
kingdom hearts ii: luxord/demyx - 1 use
kingdom hearts ii: xaldin/demyx - 1 use

"kyou kara maou: conrad/yuuri" is the same as "kyou kara maou: yuuri/conrad"

There's one tag labeled "magic knight rayearth: eagle/lantis", while the other two start with "mkr" -- they should all be the same, I think.

The lone "potc" tag links to a "will/norrington fic," so I guess it should be "potc: will/norrington".

"pretty guardian sailor moon: kunzite/zoi" should just be "sailor moon: kunzite/zoisite"

"pride and prejudice: mr darcy/mr bingley" is the same as "pride and prejudice: mr darcy/mr. bingle"

"princess princess: tohru/yuujirou" is the same as "princess princess: yuujirou/tooru"

"prompt master list"; "prompt submission"; "prompts"; "requests" -- could those be merged into one?

"reboot:bob/dot" is the same as "reboot: bob/dot"

"round 2"; "round 3"; "round ii" -- do we still need those? (round 2 and round ii are the same thing anyway)

Could "rules" and "rules for claiming" be merged?

"saikuyi: dokugakuji/kougaiji" should be "saiyuki: dokugakuji/kougaiji"
"saiyuki: gojyo/hakkai" is the same as "saiyuki: hakkai/gojyo"
"saiyuki: gojyo/sanzo" is the same as "saiyuki: sanzo/gojyo"
"saiyuki: goku/sanzo" is the same as "saiyuki: sanzo/goku"
"saiyuki: hakkai/sanzo" is the same as "saiyuki: sanzo/hakkai"
"saiyuki(gaiden): tenpou/kenren" is the same as "saiyuki: tenpou/kenren"
"saiyuki: dokugakuji/gojyo" is the same as "saiyuki: jien/gojyo"

"tokyo babylon/x: seishirou/subaru" could probably be merged with "x/1999: seishirou/subaru"
