Explicable [Bleach, Rukia/Renji, PG]
Jun. 1st, 2008 01:48 pmTitle: Explicable
Author:
misura
Rating: PG for implied sleepovers
Warnings: None.
Summary: Having Byakua Kuchiki for his brother-in-law would, Renji decided later, probably not be a good thing.
A/N: A drabblet.
"I can explain," said Renji quickly, fairly sure that he couldn't, but willing to make the effort and prolong his life by a few extra minutes - you never knew if something sufficiently distracting to give him an opportunity to escape certain death might not come up, after all. Weirder things had happened.
Byakuya's gaze took in Renji's current state - half-naked, disheveled and looking like he'd just been kicked out of bed. "Indeed," he said. "I trust you have no actual intention of marrying Rukia?"
For once, Renji was grateful his mouth seemed to have a mind of his own sometimes, because while what he thought of saying was: "You moron, of course I intend to marry her! What's wrong with you; you're calling yourself her big brother. Aren't you supposed to give me a choice between marrying her or letting you kill me?" what actually passed his lips was: "Uh."
"Of course I don't intend to marry him!" Rukia stuck her head around the screen to her room. "Good morning, big brother."
Byakuya inclined his head in her direction. "I am pleased," he said, "to find you suitably aware of your and his position to entertain no foolish notions."
"Er," said Renji. "What?"
Both Byakuya and Rukia ignored him.
"I trust you had a pleasant night," Byakuya told Rukia, who glanced at Renji, wrinkled her nose, and shrugged.
"Pleasant enough, I suppose," she said.
Byakuya seemed to be smiling ever so faintly, although it might have been a trick of Renji's imagination.
"Perhaps," he said, "you might return the remainder of his clothing to him."
Rukia considered. "Perhaps," she finally suggested, "he might come back inside for them."
("You fickle bitch!" said Renji, later, after Byakuya had gone back to do whatever it was people like Byakuya did on mornings they didn't have to work. "Who's the one who kicked me out of her room with hardly any clothes on? And now you expect me to just come crawling back? Are you insane?"
Rukia yawned. "You're right," she said. "I'm tired, anyway - I think I'll go back to bed to get some more sleep. Good day."
"Wait!")

Wow. That was really wonderful to read.
