It was the fifth reincarnation where Kagetora found Naoe first. Naoe had stumbled and Kagetora had revelled in his very apparent weakness when he dragged him onto his knees and made him beg. That life was a blur to Naoe, but the wicked curl of Kagetora's lips remained with him; everlasting.

 

The twenty-seventh reincarnation, it was Naoe who found Kagetora first. He was older than him by far and slowly withering on his bed. Naoe tried to strangle him. Kagetora only laughed.

 

Naoe lost count over the years who came first, who was ahead of the race. It was only Takaya who stuck out this time, woefully out of his time and experience, that Naoe relished being dead and alive. Naoe subtly bent Takaya to himself, enjoying for the first time, the need Takaya showed for him, the want simmering behind his eyes like a fever and it made him feel good.

 

For the first time, Kagetora's painful lingering smiles were replaced with Takaya's anger and fear. Naoe wasn't picky. He can take what he gets, as long as he kept on winning.
