Title: Always There
Author:
kawaiigami
Rating: G
Warnings: Worksafe, my brain comes up with odd things
Word Count: 386
Prompt: Sailor Moon (mangaverse), Mamoru/Usagi: Hurt/comfort - "She may be the world's greatest warrior, but she still needs a gentle hand to help heal her wounds and wipe away the tears."
Summary: Usagi has nightmares, Mamoru comforts her afterwards.
A/N: Last post this round, and on time, w00t! I'm not quite sure how I feel about this one, but such is the case with most of my writing.
He knows what to expect as soon as he hears soft footsteps padding across the main room of their apartment to his “study room” and the waver in her voice when she says, “Mamo-chan.”
Mamoru turns around in his chair to see a pajama-clad, sleepy, and teary-eyed Usagi looking at him from the doorway. “What is it Usa-ko? Another nightmare?”
She nods and a few tears spill down her cheeks. He stands up, crosses the room, and kneels in front of her, wiping the tears away with his hands as best he can, then kissing her on the nose (always makes her giggle). She smiles, and the tears show no signs of returning. Mamoru sighs in relief inwardly; this might be one of the easier nights.
He doesn’t know when the nightmares began. Usagi wouldn’t tell him, had never called him when she woke up in the middle of the night terrified that defeating Chaos had all been a dream, that he and all the others were gone. He suspects that she called one of the Senshi—Minako, maybe, or Makoto—or maybe she just petted Luna until she could fall back to sleep. When he’d found out and wanted to know why she hadn’t said anything to him, she’d admitted that it was because she didn’t want him to worry.
That had hurt a little. He was her boyfriend (husband, now); it was his job to worry about her if she was unhappy, to help make the pain go away. She might be Sailor Moon, greatest warrior there was, but she was also Tsukino (now Chiba) Usagi, the girl who used to cry when her mother scolded her about her grades or if she got even the smallest scrape. She needed someone to bandage the wounds, dry the tears, and make her laugh again. He hadn’t liked the idea of her dealing with something as painful as the nightmares on her own, or without him.
At least, he thinks as he lies beside her and listens to her breathing slow as she falls asleep, they were becoming more and more rare. Right now this only happens about once a month, and he hopes that at some point the nightmares will disappear completely. Even if they don’t, though, he’ll always be here to help her afterwards.
