[identity profile] animadri.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] kinkfest
As a preventive measure I'm asking contributors who posted anything of an adult nature in the last round to please lock it down. I'm locking down everything else. Communities have been disappearing left and right and to prevent us from being next I'm making this a members-only community.

Sorry!

I think this is a smart move.

Ugh, I know I read something before, but can anyone let me known what was the catalyst for all these comms. disappearing again?

Sometime last week there was a sort of warning-letter passed through journals, stating that LJ was being pressured to purge journals with Questionable Content, merging it with some possibilities of it being relationated with Fanlib, but most people dismissed it as a joke. Apparently, it's not.

Oh! Also, one of the possible ways to find about the community would be via interests, so better erase those, too.

Would you happen to know if this is for personal journals or just comms?

Last week the mail said that it was for both comms and journals. Right now I think they've only purged communities, but I'm not taking chances with my stuff anyway.

Thanks a lot for the info!

Ugh, if it is to do with fanlib, my dislike for that site will go up ten-fold. I didn't see the warning letter though...was it something people just passed amongst themselves..?

btw, pretty avatar. ^_^

I got it through a comm but it was f-locked, so kinda, yeah.

And thanks ^^

It has nothing to do with fanlib. There's a vigilante Protect the Chillldrun group that's going around targeting anything that might possibly have to do with pedophilia, and right now any journal that gets reported to LJ with something illegal (note that slash, yaoi, etc are not illegal) are being permanently suspended by LJ according to its ToS and the advice of its lawyers.

I have links to posts with facts about it over here (http://telophase.livejournal.com/875040.html). The fandom_wank post has the most links about it, but naturally with the big brouhaha going on right now, their server is getting hammered with poeple looking for info and is going up and down. :)

Basically, the group *claims* they're not targeting fandom and have reported no fandom journals, but honestly I think that their members are overeager and have no idea about how to distinguish between obviously fictional LJs and real criminial activity.

* And they're reporting based on searches on interest lists right now, so clean up anything that might be seen as illegal - i.e. the RPG character journal for Severus Snape that was deleted had interests that included 'murder' and 'beating people up' - and you should be fine.

Yeah, since posting that comment I've heard about all that too. *nods* All the shouta, incest, and rape stuff is going down. Only fandom I've seen attacked is the Harry Potter fandom. Most of these things don't affect me much...

There've been tonnes of posts to read through. x.x When I posted on it yesterday, I had to keep editing my post...u.u;

Questionable? To whom? Define "questionable".

So far it seems that they're targetting communities with the interests 'rape' 'incest' and 'shota'.

Sorry to read about the troubles. The moderator at [livejournal.com profile] yaoi_daily mentioned something about moving the community to another server if LJ's new corporate mentality ends ups closing their doors. Would you have a similar game plan in mind?

From: [identity profile] 7veilsphaedra.livejournal.com
Right. Apart from going through the community since its inception and hand-saving each webpage individually, then copying the format over to the new page, I have no idea. But a sign-up involving verification emails could help should the need to transfer turn imminent.

Let me know if you need a financial contribution. LJ won't be receiving any further renewal fees from me if my favourite communities disappear.

There's a LJ archiving utility called ljArchive that you can get here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ljarchive/

I'm not sure how well it works for communities, but it does have that function, and it seems to work great for individual LJs.

I've noticed the LJ server being kind of flaky these past couple days, though, and I'm guessing that's a product of their purge and panicked people trying to back-up everything.

Majorly dickish move on LJ's part. I really hope LJ doesn't take any action against [livejournal.com profile] springkink or any of the wonderful challenge comms it's associated with, but I understand the need to be cautious. I think everything of mine with adult content on this comm has been locked down. And like [livejournal.com profile] 7veilsphaedra said, if you need financial contributions to get that webspace, let me know.

I--
that's horrible move, LJ. Bad move indeed *goes to lock posts*

I, also, will chip in for web space if it's needed.

Anyone know if this is just comms, or personal journals as well?

not LJ's fault! Good to know. I am quick to jump to conclusions and for that I apologize! D:

Still with the offer of help, should it be needed.

If you're forced to move, I suggest going to GreatestJournal because the format is almost exactly like LiveJournal. I'm a mod of an RP game over there, and it's nice because no one really bothers us because not nearly as many people use GJ. Perhaps the same thing could happen with writing communities.

Just a suggestion. And if you do figure out a way to work around with webspace, that works well too. But I like the idea of an LJ or GJ format because it makes it easy to write reviews. Either that or we're going to have an exodus to places like FicWad.

I hope it all works out! And thanks for the warning.

the problem with Greatest Journal is that there is no reliable archiving. Posts from an entensive writing project I did with my girlfriend -- things written in comments, ect -- are slowly disappearing as they get older. The project itself is maybe two years old.

That would be sort of sucky and lame for a community like this, to have it's posts disappear...

From: [identity profile] iapetusneume.livejournal.com
...my RP group recently found out that they did that with icons, but I didn't know they did it with posts too.

You do have a good point. If I had known that fact, I wouldn't have suggested GJ in the first place. ^^;; But thanks for letting me know - now this means I should go in there and back up the RP logs...

To at least pull off all the posts and the comments, you can use the ljarchive program, if you've got a Windows machine and the .NET framework. No idea if you can then DO anything with that archive, like reupload it somewhere, but it would allow you to keep the content.

Until then, it looks like the best policy is just to keep the interests list clean of anything illegal and have the default security be "friends-only".

This sucks like a sucking thing.

Hooooooo boy. There's really no words.

I guess I should go lock my fic then; because it has two men(!) kissing, and one of them is several hundred years older than the other (which obviously makes me into a pedophile). And then there's all the stories over on my personal LJ, and in other communities, and so forth.

...However, I don't think locking posts will help. Anyone can register an LJ account, join this community, and voilĂ  -- be able to see everything.

Just for double safety I locked an R one with reference to tentacles and a PG-12 one with brief but stuck in the warnings reference to incest.

*hugs*

Sorry about the wankage that's been going on :(. Let's hug in collective fandom comfort!

Thank you for the heads up! I hadn't heard about this at all before I checked [livejournal.com profile] springkink today.

Question: I've looked through quite a few of the communities and articles on this and there's just one question I can't seem to find the answer to - are they going through and looking at pairings yet on interests? Example: I ship Simon/River and deleted "Tamcest" from my interests, but "Simon/River" is still there. (Incidentally, many of my ships are cest [TCON, ASOUBE], but I've deleted all the -cests.) Should I be concerned about the pairings being listed on my interests?

Also, thank you for spreading the word. I really can't believe this is happening.

Just for clarity's sake, if I'm already listed as a member do I need to rejoin? This happened to Belladonna12. She thought she was a member, and now she's waiting approval.
