ADMIN POST
May. 29th, 2007 05:52 pmAs a preventive measure I'm asking contributors who posted anything of an adult nature in the last round to please lock it down. I'm locking down everything else. Communities have been disappearing left and right and to prevent us from being next I'm making this a members-only community.
Sorry!

Date: 2007-05-29 10:51 pm (UTC)Ugh, if it is to do with fanlib, my dislike for that site will go up ten-fold. I didn't see the warning letter though...was it something people just passed amongst themselves..?
btw, pretty avatar. ^_^

Date: 2007-05-30 05:12 pm (UTC)I have links to posts with facts about it over here (http://telophase.livejournal.com/875040.html). The fandom_wank post has the most links about it, but naturally with the big brouhaha going on right now, their server is getting hammered with poeple looking for info and is going up and down. :)
Basically, the group *claims* they're not targeting fandom and have reported no fandom journals, but honestly I think that their members are overeager and have no idea about how to distinguish between obviously fictional LJs and real criminial activity.

I'm not sure how well it works for communities, but it does have that function, and it seems to work great for individual LJs.
I've noticed the LJ server being kind of flaky these past couple days, though, and I'm guessing that's a product of their purge and panicked people trying to back-up everything.

Date: 2007-05-29 10:38 pm (UTC)that's horrible move, LJ. Bad move indeed *goes to lock posts*
I, also, will chip in for web space if it's needed.
Anyone know if this is just comms, or personal journals as well?

Date: 2007-05-29 10:57 pm (UTC)Just a suggestion. And if you do figure out a way to work around with webspace, that works well too. But I like the idea of an LJ or GJ format because it makes it easy to write reviews. Either that or we're going to have an exodus to places like FicWad.
I hope it all works out! And thanks for the warning.

Date: 2007-05-29 11:37 pm (UTC)That would be sort of sucky and lame for a community like this, to have it's posts disappear...

Date: 2007-05-29 11:43 pm (UTC)You do have a good point. If I had known that fact, I wouldn't have suggested GJ in the first place. ^^;; But thanks for letting me know - now this means I should go in there and back up the RP logs...

Date: 2007-05-30 12:42 am (UTC)Until then, it looks like the best policy is just to keep the interests list clean of anything illegal and have the default security be "friends-only".
This sucks like a sucking thing.

Date: 2007-05-30 01:26 am (UTC)I guess I should go lock my fic then; because it has two men(!) kissing, and one of them is several hundred years older than the other (which obviously makes me into a pedophile). And then there's all the stories over on my personal LJ, and in other communities, and so forth.
...However, I don't think locking posts will help. Anyone can register an LJ account, join this community, and voilĂ -- be able to see everything.

Date: 2007-05-30 07:43 pm (UTC)Question: I've looked through quite a few of the communities and articles on this and there's just one question I can't seem to find the answer to - are they going through and looking at pairings yet on interests? Example: I ship Simon/River and deleted "Tamcest" from my interests, but "Simon/River" is still there. (Incidentally, many of my ships are cest [TCON, ASOUBE], but I've deleted all the -cests.) Should I be concerned about the pairings being listed on my interests?
Also, thank you for spreading the word. I really can't believe this is happening.

Date: 2007-05-30 10:32 pm (UTC)I'm going to say no. From everything I've read, they seem to be concentrating on certain interests: incest, pedo, illegal acts... IIRC, they are targeting journals that have been turned in by the whole WFI folks. Check out the links above for more details.
