Comfort [Transformers, Blaster/femaleSoundwave]

Title: Comfort
Author: [livejournal.com profile] yami_samuraiflo
Rating: T
Warnings: Gender bending, sexism.
Word Count: 1000
Summary: Blaster is open-minded. Cybertronian society, sadly, wasn't always like that, and neither are the Decepticons.
Prompt: Transfromers (G1) Blaster/Soundwave: gender bending (female Soundwave), touching - He knew how hard it was for her to hide what she was from the other Decepticons, but he also knew how much of a relief it was that she could lower her barriers and be herself around him.
A/N: English isn't my first language so excuse any mistakes you'll find.

Blaster prided himself to be an accepting, open-minded mech. His creators had raised him like that, making him see past prejudices. Especially in regards to the femmes.

His creators never said anything against them, in fact praising them and telling him there would be nothing wrong if he ever bonded with a femme, but some of his fellow younglings hadn’t been so kind about them.

Femmes had always been an oddity on Cybertron. Their sparks were exotics, and they were able to carry multiple sparks and ‘give birth’ to more healthy sparklings than the average mech, but aside from that? They were a waste, or so most mechs thought at some point.

Their worst crime? They were costly and a drain on the resources. Where a mech only needed a cube to be full, a femme needed at least two cubes.

Some pretended that was because a femme’s spark wasn’t as strong as a mech’s spark, or that they were unstable. Stupid, really. It wasn’t a question of strength or instability. In truth, femmes’ sparks drained a good part of the energon to keep their subroutines working properly.

As soon as the problem was mentioned, scientists began to search a solution. The best they found was a total transformation of the femme’s frame, with modifications for a lesser energon consumption.

After some time, it had become a law for femmes to have lighter built, weaker bodies than mechs; sure, it wasn’t exactly fear for some of them, especially those who worked in rough jobs like the mines, but having a lighter frame decreased their consumption of energon.

To calm the more irate ones, there were promises to make the new bodies limber and prettier, and a good part of the process would be paid by the Council. Protestations died quickly after that.

It worked more or less; energon reserves lasted longer – in truth, not so much, but results could easily be fixed – and everywhere on Cybertron, in each town, colourful frames and pretty faces began to fill the streets. Femmes were now easily distinguishable from mechs by aesthetically pleasant features.

All that happened long before the war, even before his creation, and by the time he was old enough to truly understand, old femmes models had almost entirely disappeared.

Still, when the Decepticons began to rise, there were still femmes here and there who were still wearing a mech frame. It wasn’t especially because they wanted to break the law, but rather because they didn’t have the credits to upgrades themselves; even with subventions from the Council, it wasn’t cheap.

And, unfortunately, even without the energon consumption problems, some mechs kept a grudge against femmes. Some of them were lucky to find a job in some areas. Nobody could blame some of them to hide their true gender by refusing the upgrades, except those of the faces, since they were mandatory since sparklinghood.

Nowadays, prejudices had decreased, but Blaster still knew Autobots who weren’t femmes biggest fans, although they avoided to say that out loud. However, next to most Decepticons, they were pretty tames.

Being an Autobot femme? It was acceptable and expected. Most femmes that Blaster had met so far were Autobots working with Elita One or Neutrals. But being a Decepticon femme? It was an abomination.

Blaster couldn’t understand why. Perhaps it was because most of them came from the lower levels of the society, those who had been the most shaken by the different energon crisis. Perhaps it was also because they were almost no femme military models in the first place, and the Decepticons were warriors first.

It made him feel pity toward Soundwave.

She was dedicated to the Decepticons’ cause, she truly believed in Megatron – or at least she had been in the beginning; Blaster wasn’t so sure she still was after all theses orns – and at the same time, she was something the Decepticons held in contempt.

It had been so easy for her Soundwave to hide her true gender; wearing a mask, a visor, and a vocal filter helped greatly to disguise any trace of a femme’s usual features. Only her face

As for her spark and her consumption of energon... It could be easily explained by the fact that Soundwave was a Cassettes carrier, which were know to be heavy consumers due to the numerate symbiotes they had to sustain. And none of her Cassettes would ever betray her secret.

Yes, Soundwave was a true believer... And it was her beliefs which caused her so much pain, he mused as he held the Decepticon’s femme close to him, her face hidden against his chest. She wasn’t crying, but she definitively wasn’t happy. She didn’t say anything, but she held him like a young sparkling would held his Bearer or his Sire.

He didn’t move, just letting her listen to the buzzing of his circuits and the songs he played silently. He knew how hard it was for her to hide what she was to the other Decepticons, but he also knew how much of a relief it was that she could lower her barriers and be herself around him.

She wouldn’t quit the Decepticons, not now and probably not ever, but sometimes, just sometimes, she needed to be reassured, accepted for what she was by someone else than her faithful Cassettes.

Blaster just happened to know her secret and had been the only one who never thought about using it against her, not even once. She couldn’t exactly understand why, but right now, she didn’t care. She just wanted to be held and loved, and she said so. Just being touched was recomforting.

The Autobot just hummed something softly, quietly patting her back, lowering them to the ground in a sitting position.

Playfully, Blaster run a hand on her thigh. She smiled behind her mask. She wouldn’t leave the Decepticons, and he wouldn’t leave the Autobots, but he would always be here if she needed him.

And that was all that mattered.

Nicely written - and an interesting explanation for femmes. Not females per se, just a different frame.

And Blaster + SW = win!
