"If you can't follow a few simple directions, I won't untie you."
Yuuri's eyes widened at Gwendal's words. As always, the tall Mazoku sounded gruff and deadly serious. Surely he didn't mean it, even though it sounded real. Yuuri made a muffled sound through the thick material of the gag over his mouth, indicating he wanted to speak. Gwendal shook his head at him. Yuuri blinked in confusion then became alarmed as Gwendal pulled the ropes around Yuuri's wrists tighter.
"Now stay quiet and sit still," Gwendal ordered and, drawing his sword, left Yuuri alone again.
Yuuri heard a clash of steel, followed by some dull thuds.
Shortly after that, Gwendal returned. "Now we have two hours before my brothers arrive," Gwendal said, closing the door and looking to Yuuri with a critical eye.
Something about that look made Yuuri feel more nervous than relieved that he'd been rescued. He'd stayed where he was quietly. Surely he'd be untied now?
But Gwendal continued to just look at him - for so long that Yuuri wondered whether the two hours were up already.
Then Gwendal crouched down beside him. Yuuri was hopeful when Gwendal took off the gag. He gulped in a huge amount of air then smiled but Gwendal's brow was still furrowed. No real surprises there, Yuuri reasoned. How often had he seen Gwendal really smile anyway?
"Thank you, Gwendal," he said, awaiting the ropes to be untied now but Gwendal straightened up again and made no other move toward him.
In fact, the Mazoku was blushing and his eyes was twitching as he gazed down at the helpless Yuuri.
Surely he couldn't possibly look cute in this situation, Yuuri's thoughts whirled.
"....Uh, Gwendal...? Can you untie me now?"
"Not yet," was the gruff reply and he looked embarrassed but cleared his throat and turned away.
"But you rescued me. So everything is okay. Isn't it?"
"We're waiting for the others," the voice was stern but Yuuri caught an edge of nervousness in it.
"What's wrong? Is something wrong?"
"I thought I told you to be quiet. I won't release you until you do what I say."
Yuuri was taken aback. Sure, when there were kidnappers present it was fine to go along with those orders but it was only Gwendal and himself here now. He opened his mouth to speak but then thought better of it. He shifted uncomfortably in his bonds then let out a sigh that turned into a partial whine. His leg had gone to sleep and the ropes were digging in where Gwendal had tightened them earlier.
"Can we-?" Yuuri began but Gwendal turned abruptly toward him and so he stopped, a little frightened by his expression.
Gwendal looked strained, as if he was fighting some internal battle. He walked toward Yuuri, crouching down again and inspected the ropes. Not untying them, he merely ran his fingers over them, also brushing across the skin of Yuuri's wrists. It sent an involuntary shiver through Yuuri, though he couldn't tell if it was from fear or something like excitement. That last thought made him blush too.
But before he could dwell on the thoughts or feelings, Gwendal was hoisting him upwards, over his strong shoulders and was heading out the door.
"Gwendal..," Yuuri began nervously but the sturdy Mazoku didn't reply.
He threw Yuuri over onto his horse and hauled himself up in front, briefly checking to make sure Yuuri was secure before saying: "I'll untie you when we get there. Just don't make a sound until then."
With a kick, Gwendal got the horse moving at a fast gallop. Yuuri hoped he was safe, away from the kidnappers but he was suddenly filled with uncertainty. He could only assume that Gwendal expected to meet Conrad and Wolfram along the way and he hoped that would be soon as being alone with Gwendal again was a truly unnerving thought.
Yuuri kept quiet and hoped for the best, hoping he didn’t need to be rescued from his rescuer.
