Title: Most of the Pieces
Author: Laylah
Rating: NC17.
Warnings: Crossover weirdness? You should be expecting that. Um. Nox = sex pollen? Also more Roxas than the prompt called for.
Word count: ~1600
Summary: He definitely took a wrong turn here somewhere.
When he steps out of the portal Axel's first instinct is to curse. He indulges it. He's taken a wrong turn somewhere, and now he's in this weird courtyard with ambient light from nowhere -- certainly not the black sky overhead -- and no scenery except a couple of oversized doors and a big dead tree. He walks around the courtyard, examining the less-than-inspiring setting.
Correction. Less-than-inspiring and creepy -- on the other side of the tree is about half a human body, sticking out of the trunk. "Man," Axel says, "what did you do?"
The guy in the tree doesn't answer, which Axel figures is not exactly a disappointment.
There's not much going on in here, though, so after a minute Axel starts poking around, looking for something to make this adventure worth his time. The first of the big doors turns out to have an inscription carved on it, labeling it the Door of Hell's Commandments. Axel rolls his eyes and isn't all that surprised when the door comes open easily the first time he pushes.
Behind the door there's more nothing. More doors. More black space.
"One more time," Axel tells the empty air, "and then I'm going to just give up on you guys and go home." The door of earth sounds boring. The door of water sounds like somebody else's idea of a good time, not his. But the far door turns out to be the door of darkness.
"Very spooky," Axel says. "Really, I'm shaking in my boots here."
The door doesn't even creak menacingly when he opens it. Lame. But the scenery is different, at least. No more doors, just a small pedestal in the middle of the floor with something glowing purple on it. And as Axel has discovered in the many diverting hours he's spent disrupting Vexen's lab, things that glow are important.
The glow comes from a stone set into the pedestal, carved with some kind of squiggle that probably means something, even if Axel couldn't say whether it's a warning or a promise. One of these days his curiosity is going to get him in trouble. He touches the stone anyway.
The sourceless light goes out like he's flipped a switch. It's like traveling the paths between worlds, almost, except that he still has weight, still feels like he's standing on something instead of pushing through something. He summons his fire, pushing it out through his fingertips -- and he can feel the heat of it, coiling around his wrist in a comforting nimbus, but there's no light.
"Well, you're new," says a voice, his own voice, from somewhere in the dark. "You lost, little fire ghost?"
No wonder Roxas always wants to hit him, Axel thinks. He sounds like a dick. "Not lost," he says. "Just exploring."
Not-him laughs, from closer this time. "The kid doesn't know you're here, does he? You don't belong in this mind." He's close enough by now to make the hair stand up on the back of Axel's neck. "You make me different."
"Yeah, I have that effect on people," Axel says, even though it's not so much true of the Nobody he's become. He definitely took a wrong turn here somewhere. "Turn the lights back on, would you?"
"Why would I want to do that?" the creep says, from right behind him. "I'm Nox. I'm what happens when the lights go out."
Axel opens his mouth to tell Nox that he's a pretty pathetic boogeyman, and then something touches the back of his neck like hitting him with a really potent, really weird kind of magic: his mouth goes dry and his palms wet, his limbs weak and shaky, his cock hard enough to hurt where it's trapped in his pants. "Fuck," he says. He tries to turn around, and Nox moves with him, the light touch turning into a rough grip on the back of his neck, Nox's hand not quite clawed but much too rough-textured to feel human.
"Mm-hmm," Nox says, pressing against Axel's back, snaking long skinny arms around him. "Glad you're with me on that."
"What?" Axel says. "No. Let go, you freak." He twists, and then somehow that turns into bucking his hips, pushing into the pressure of Nox's hand splayed over his cock.
"But I'm bored," Nox purrs. He has a nice purr, Axel thinks. He should try that on Roxas sometime. "You're the most interesting thing to happen in here since the old man and the kid made that truce."
Axel makes another try at pulling away and is kind of not surprised, by this point, when his limbs don't cooperate and instead he's helping Nox get his zippers open. "What's wrong with you?"
Nox laughs. "You can't tell? I'm incomplete. Just like you."
"Not just like me," Axel says. This thing is full of want, and Nobodies can't do that. Shouldn't be able to. What he's feeling right now isn't his own at all, and to the body he has left it doesn't matter.
"No." Nox licks the side of his neck, and then nips with sharp reptile teeth. "You're a strange one, aren't you? Most of the pieces of being human, but no desires." His hand pushes into Axel's pants, rough and strange, and gets hold of Axel's cock. "You borrow my wants and I'll borrow your shape, and we'll get somewhere."
"Not sure I want to get where you're going," Axel says, thrusting into Nox's hand.
"That's okay," Nox says. "I got enough want for both of us. Have some of mine." He bites again, and Axel thrashes in his arms, limbs flooded with a hunger that doesn't belong to him.
Fuck it. When you can't back out of trouble, you push through it. Nox doesn't seem to want to kill him, at least.
Axel turns, and as he moves Nox pulls on his coat, so he winds up shrugging out of it to be able to get his hands free -- to be able to get a grip on Nox and drag the bastard close to him in the dark. He remembers what it was like to kiss, what his Other used to do for fun, and he's pretty sure that this, Nox's hard hands and sharp teeth, isn't really the same. But he's not really the same, either, so it'll do. He's hard and Nox is stripping him out of the rest of his leather, and he might not be so familiar with want, these days, but he understands burning until there's no more fuel.
When Nox gets him down on the ground, gets his legs spread, he thinks about complaining for a second, but Nox's breath is hot on his throat and he likes heat, and there's friction, almost too much friction when Nox pushes into him, and his fire hovers right at the tips of his fingers reflexively, like it could help --
"Is that what it takes, for you?" Nox asks, his voice heavy with amusement and pleasure. "Go on, light me up. I can take it."
"Fucking pervert, aren't you?" Axel asks, and lets the fire go, lets the heat wash over them both.
Nox laughs. "Look what I have to work with," he says, and thrusts harder. His hand on Axel's cock is textured and strange, and the fire makes every motion more intense as it scorches away everything that doesn't matter. Axel gets his hands into Nox's hair and pulls, hard, listening to the hungry sounds Nox makes in his voice in return -- and would he make sounds like that, if Roxas hurt him just right? -- and he's -- it's weird, he's friends with Roxas as much as any of them can be friends with anything but it's not like they do this, not like Roxas would have the patience to hang around with him that long or the trust to spread his legs -- and not like it makes any sense to think of Roxas, who's all bright hard light, here in the dark with Nox --
And at some point the wanting slips over into needing, hot and hungry as the fire itself, and he's bucking under Nox's weight and answering Nox's hisses with growls of his own and this -- in just a few more minutes, just a little bit longer, this is going to be so good, just what he needs -- and then Nox stiffens, not like he's coming but like something's just startled him, his shape changing under Axel's hands, and he curses in at least three different languages before he manages to get a sentence out again:
"Son of a bitch hasn't needed me for months, and now as soon as I'm having a little fun without him -- damnit -- wait for me." And then he's gone, pulling away with a cold prickle of magic and blinking out of existence.
Which makes the light come back, and then Axel's sitting there on the floor, alone, naked, still hard. "Fuck," he says. He reaches for his pants. He's sore as hell, and he thinks Nox's hipbones left bruises on his thighs.
And really, like hell he's going to sit around here and hope the creep gets back to play a second round. If he goes home, he has other options, now that he's thinking about taking them. He even knows the back way into Roxas's room.
Thinking about Roxas makes something spike and shiver down his spine like it did when Nox touched him the first time. Axel grins. One of these days this fascination is going to get him in trouble.
He heads home anyway.

Date: 2007-04-23 01:46 pm (UTC)Somehow I feel dirty using this icon, but this makes me SQUEEEEEE! too much not to use it.
Alice disapproves of this and thinks Yuri needs to make his head-monsters behave more.I, on the other hand, wish they'd misbehave like this more often. *_*

I swear the hardest part of this was getting some good tension between the personalities -- they're both so obnoxious, it almost felt like overkill. ^^;

Date: 2007-04-24 01:51 am (UTC)Wonderful fic! I love Axel's instinct to get into trouble and poke at things and Nox was just too perfect for words. The description was lovely and sent all kinds of the good kind of shivers down my spine.
This was one of my prompts.
