Prompt: Sukisyo - Sora/Sunao - hurt/comfort - he had begun to remember, bit by bit
Word count: 558
Sora couldn't understand why - if it was he that couldn't remember - Sunao was the one needing the most comfort. But as the memories gradually became clearer it began making sense. Sora had blocked out their trauma but Sunao lived with it and had suffered longer. As he came to realise this, Sora could only want to protect Sunao even more than he did before. He had failed once then succeeded and he wanted no more failures.
Sunao was crying. From his own bed, Sora could hear him and it caused a pain to strike his heart. He whispered Sunao's name softly. There was no reply so Sora slipped out of his bed and went to Sunao. Watching over him, he could hear mumbling now that he was closer, though he couldn't make out the words.
"Fujimori?" He spoke the family name quietly and touched Sunao's shoulder.
Sunao froze then opened his eyes fearfully. "What is it?" He asked in a small voice.
"You were...," he paused and wiped at a tear that had trailed down Sunao's cheek.
Sunao quickly sat up and wiped at his eyes.
"Sorry," he mumbled and hugged his knees.
Sora sat on the edge of the bed.
"Don't be," Sora said, biting his lip. He wanted to just pull Sunao into his arms and hold him but he felt invasive. He thought of how easily Yoru could have done this with Ran but he shook the idea away. They weren't really those people. They had to be their real selves now, as hard as that was.
He struggled with himself for a minute as Sunao mutely stared into space, then, gathering all his strength of will, he reached out to his friend and lover.
Sunao stiffened at first but then he clung to Sora and the sobbing suddenly began again. Sora soothed him with gentle sounds, rubbing his back and holding him tightly. He had no intentions of ever letting him go ever again. He couldn't be manipulated anymore. He was determined to make sure of that.
"Don't cry anymore," he whispered. "I'm here and you're safe. We're both safe and I... I love you."
Sunao hiccuped as he tried to stop his sobbing. Sora kissed his hair and kept him close.
"Please never leave me again," Sunao murmured so softly it was as if he was afraid to speak louder.
"Never," Sora said firmly.
"Never," Sunao echoed and clung tighter to Sora. "Yes... I love you too," he added, his voice grateful.
Sora smiled and continued to soothe his back until Sunao moved and looked up at him. It wasn't the way Ran looked at Yoru and for that Sora was glad but he did get some sense of déjà vu as Sunao kissed him. He melted into it, almost with relief.
"Thank you," Sora said, though he wasn't sure exactly why he was saying his thanks. He hugged Sunao again.
The night was spent in the same bed, filled with slow and careful caresses until they fell asleep in each other's arms. The nights after that were never as sad as that one had started out. Their time together no longer mysterious and frightening but optimistic. There was a long way to go to peace of mind but it was a beginning and a way forward that both embraced wholeheartedly.

Date: 2009-06-13 08:19 pm (UTC)You know, this makes me sad for Yoru and Ran, in a way, but it's true - and that makes this fic feel very real. They need so much healing time together. <3
