[identity profile] animadri.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] kinkfest
I've changed the community setting to moderated for the time being, deleted all interests and asked that any adult material be locked down until this all blows over. I also backed up all entries using the LJ Export feature from this community as well as the [livejournal.com profile] yaoi_challenge comm.

I'm thinking that we need a sort of central archive of our own for all the challenges/communities I run, similar to the yuletidetreasure.org site. One where participants can upload, delete, etc. their own contributions.

Anyone with mad web designer skills care to make this dream come true for me? *bats eyelashes* Anyone? Bueller?

ETA: In light of recent events, [livejournal.com profile] springkink will be unlocked and once again open to all (watchers and members alike). *crosses fingers*

Having looked at the lj export thing, I see it says it doesn't produce material designe to be easily read by a human (presumably it's so you can reload an lj?) - another option is ljbook.com, which produces a pdf document. At the moment, it's telling me the site is getting too much traffic for it to work. I don't know it it's much use for a comm as opposed to a personal lj, but it does seem to be another method of backing up.

Do you use Windows or Mac? If you use Windows, see if you have the .NET framework installed; that's what I had to do to make LJ Archive work and then it was a perfectly easy little thing.

You know, it really sucks that we all have to be so worried about this. But you know, if it wasn't now, I am sure it would come to this someday. It's just sad that it happens at all.

Thanks for doing such a great job on the community though. I will continue to support you where ever you end up.

Hopefully, all this will blow over in a few weeks and we can get on with our regularly scheduled kink.

*hugs*

I don't know about "mad skills", but if you show me what you want I should be able to code it. However, I'll be starting a rather demanding job very shortly (9 hours a day, and that is not counting the hours that will be sucked away by commuting). But yeah, if no one else steps up for the job, I'll damn well make time! ...somehow ^_^;

*waves* Guess what I do professionally? If you guessed websites, you guessed correctly. ^_~ While my front-end design skills (making the site look all pretty) are somewhat mediocre, I've got the coding solid. Been doing websites, in varying degrees of complexity, for somewhere over a decade.

I will totally collab with you on the design. that's usually the only part I can do ^^

If you build it, they will come? ;D

...I think they're already here. ^_~ More like, if you build it, they will slash?

if you build it, they will come and not have to worry about whether or not a bunch of crazy vigilantes like the subject material?

That too. ^_^

Are you still planning on having website backups now that LJ seems to have come to their senses?

If you still are, I'll gladly give you some suggestions (and some warnings).

If no one else has offered yet, I can offer webspace, or recommend my provider instead if you want to purchase it on your own. I use Dreamhost.com, and one of the things I like about them is that they cheerfully admit that just about the only sites that use all the bandwidth DH allots to each account are the porn sites they host. :)

DH has its problems - as do all providers. They were known for being very stable, then got a huge influx of customers about a year ago and had problems for a few months, but in recent months have been stable again. The times I've had problems and needed to contact tech support, I've always gotten quick responses and the techs worked with me to figure out what it was.

DH's basic plan is 200 GB disk space, added to weekly, and 2 TB/month bandwidth, added to weekly, with unlimited domains and subdomains and MySQL databases. I've been hosting several sites (http://www.magatsu.net/), including [livejournal.com profile] madame_manga's erotic Blade of the Immortal fanfic site (http://madamemanga.magatsu.net/boti/pdf_download.html) for the better part of a year, and my kinkfic random story generator (http://www.magatsu.net/kinkfic/) with no problems.

As near as I can tell, the kerfluffle is mostly about incest/child porn, so only those entries should need locking? But better safe than sorry, I agree ^_^

We your members muchly appreciate all the work that you do. I haven't a ton of free time to my name, but if there's anything I can do, let me know!

Apparently journals with interests like "murder" or "beating people up" also get nixed -- a few of the RP journals went down for this reason :\

Ugh. I re-read my interests last night and I'm fairly certain nothing in my interests is triggery except perhaps fandom and the names of some of the roleplaying games I play (i.e. Demon: the Fallen) and I'm now starting to feel paranoid, like I should delete those. I HATE that LJ is no longer my happy space to play in and I haven't even done anything wrong.

yeah, like -- I find myself wondering if I need to get rid of my interest "boys" and replace it with something more explicit and yet vague, like "sentient organisms with a Y chromosome" >->; or maybe just "males"

stupid paranoia-inducing crusaders.

I've decided I'm going to go with "hells no." This is my space, damn it, and I want my space to be a safe place.

I do think it's moderately hilarious that this entire shit-storm is going to drive such folk who DO actually condone it in real life farther underground and make life harder for us innocent types.

Is our current challenge still on? Sorry if I'm a pain. This just burns my buns. I'm going to friend lock my personal journal even though I don't usually post to the d#$% thing.

Are you going to unlock now that the fiction comms were unsuspended, or are you keeping the current policies? :)
