A/N: Argh. All apologies for the slight lateness. D:

She could feel his presence as a tickling of the hairs on the back of her neck. It was irritating in more ways than one, but she tried not to let it bother her. She was guarding this caravan and she was damned well going to see it through. He wouldn't attack them, he had told her that last time she saw him. But it was... annoying to know he was there watching.

"Must you watch my every move?" She asked after seeing the Hypello safe and receiving her pay. He smiled through his hair at her.

"Do you want me to stop?"

"Get down from there and find out." He looked away to the sunset and heard her smirk. "Or don't, if you're afraid."

"You called me coward?" She just smiled, and the light was the same as that reflecting off her sword when she drew it.

The sun was setting again as he tossed his head, throwing the sweat-soaked silver hair out of his eyes. Her endurance, power, inventiveness, and laconic tongue attracted him more than most things in these pale worlds. In another place and time, she would've been the first female SOLDIER. Here, she was the toughest warrior on this world.

Besides him, at least.

He thought he could outlast her, and though she was becoming tired, she wasn't going to stop for him. She had fought beside the best of the Crimson Squad when Yevon was at the height of its power. She had personally fought beside the heroine of the world to keep all safe from danger after Yevon had fallen, and many said that made her a hero, too. She could take on one broken-winged swordsman with a pretty face and hair as silvered as her own.

He eventually saw the fatigue in her strokes and blocks and spread his arms out, his sword stretching like the shadow of death. It was, he supposed.

"We don't have to continue this, you know." She eyed him suspiciously. "You can admit defeat. It is no shame to lose to me." He stepped forward and she did not move. He took another step and then there was a shock like lightening, like a supernova.

He opened his eyes to see her frozen in the end of her stroke, sword up, and watching him with respect in her eyes and the barest hint of a smirk on her lips. He looked down to see a shallow cut across his chest, bleeding slightly.

"I refuse, Sephiroth." She cleaned her sword and sheathed it, then offered her hand. He took it.

Tense and playful. Somewhat exasperated. Can't you just see her wanting a rematch after she had some rest? ... I can!

Happy prompter! Happy prompter! I don't know why, but I just love the idea of these two matching up, and this was *wonderful*. In every way. =) I'm sorry for taking so long to reply, but it really really really was terrific!
