Prompt: Weiss Kreuz, Nagi/Schuldig: After a mission; Rewarding good behaviour - Better than candy

A/N: Title comes from Rise Against - From Heads Unworthy. Italics are telepathic speech.
Farfarello was a teammate and Nagi knew that he should miss him after he left to go off with Sally. And maybe part of him did, since Schwarz had been four for years; they knew how to deal with each other better than anyone looking in on the odd bunch could understand. But most of Nagi's mind didn't miss him at all. He'd earned Takatori's wrath by killing Ouka, he'd been the one to kill Tot and push Nagi to the brink of death as well, he cared for nothing other than making God mad and working to help Schwarz make their plans for chaos. All that and Farfarello ended up being the one to run off into the sunset in the name of love. He didn't deserve that happy ending.
Love's a bunch of lies anyway, kid. He won't last long on his own.
You and Crawford have the same thoughts on love. Let me have mine.
If Schuldig's goal had been to derail Nagi's train of thought, he'd succeeded. He scowled at Schuldig as he looked at a chess game their current employer left in progress. Nagi studied the pieces and tried to figure out what the next few moves were likely to be if he were one of the players. With nothing else to do while they waited for an alarm to sound and tell them to work, he could waste a moment or two like this. Nagi slid a few pieces around the board mentally, but put them back once he finished testing that possible plan. It looked like black would lose soon if the player didn't make a couple certain moves soon. Once Nagi realized that, he almost laughed.
The alarm went off then, before he could think too much about the implications of the black player losing when Schwarz was playing bodyguard. Nagi stood up and quietly followed Schuldig out of the waiting area and towards where they were meant to be. Their employer was a rich doctor who suspected someone of wanting to murder him and his family. Maybe he'd been right. He took a moment to put up a shield around himself. Better safe than sorry if it were an actual challenge.
Nagi's eyes darted around to look for the source of the intrusion that alarm meant. A man popped out from behind a statue and tried to run at Schuldig. Nagi didn't hesitate before he picked him up in the air like he were nothing more than a ragdoll and slammed him against the wall hard enough that he swore he could hear the man's skull rattle.
Schuldig took off, presumably to join Crawford and make sure the target stayed safe. It was one man out here; Nagi could handle himself. Rather than kill him with a quick broken neck, Nagi stepped in close and started to snap his fingers. He screamed and looked surprised that someone who looked like a child could do this.
"Please don't kill me..." he begged. "The doctor is a terrible man who experiments on children and used my daughter in one of them. I was just looking for evidence of his crimes. My family loves me and needs me...let me live."
Nagi smiled cruelly for a moment. The job was to deal with the threat, not necessarily kill him. He focused intently and made something in the man's brain rupture. He'd likely live, but he'd spend the rest of his days as a vegetable being looked over by his family.
It's done. The intruder's not a threat anymore.
I knew you could handle it on your own. You're growing up so nicely.
The statue the man had been behind almost fell, but Nagi managed to keep it upright and gained complete control of himself and his power after a few deep breaths. Crawford and Schuldig came back downstairs then and Schuldig kept up the proud act by briefly applauding. Nagi made his sunglasses fly across the floor just to see him run a few steps.
"Do I get something for handling it by myself?" he joked. Nagi had taken care of things on his own before and didn't get why Schuldig thought this was worth making a big deal over.
"Sure, why not. I know something even better than candy." Schuldig laughed as the three of them quietly left the house. They'd be paid tomorrow, as soon as the banks opened up. With time on his hands, Nagi's mind wandered again. Farfarello managed to leave when he'd enjoyed all of their killing and plans. Nagi didn't know how he'd come to be part of Schwarz, but he was certain it wasn't as a young teen fresh from seeing someone he cared for killed in front of him by Weiss.
Nagi still didn't know why Crawford had been there to pick him up afterwards and take him away as he swore his revenge. He hadn't liked Crawford when he was younger and only dealt with him now because they'd become a team and it was easier than striking out on his own. And yet, Nagi wondered if that might be better. He could still get revenge on Weiss and the world alone, and if he left he might be able to see Tot again. Leaving the team for love, though, made him no better than Farfarello.
You're thinking too much, Nagi. Here's your reward. Like I said - it's better than candy.
Nagi looked up, now certain that Schuldig kept interrupting his thoughts about this on purpose, and took the offered small bag from him. Inside was a stuffed bunny that brought plenty of memories right to the surface. Was this a hint? With Schuldig, he could never tell. Nagi carried it home and set it on the floor next to his bed. He wasn't sure it was any better than candy, but it was certainly food for thought.
