1. Two weeks to go! *squee*
2.
sk_updates: newsletter-type community for the
springkink challenge. It will be updated daily during the months of April and July.
3. We will begin accepting new prompts for the Y_C's anniversary round the first week of May. This will most likely be the final round of the year. Posting will take place during the month of July. (All is welcome. Just remember to give me a: [character - kink - idea/lyric/phrase/whatever - number (from 1 to 31)]
4. Established relationships vs. First Times - Which do you prefer writing? Reading?
ETA: 5. All current prompts unclaimed by March 31st will be rolled over into a separate post and once again up for grabs in May. However, they will be discarded if not claimed during July's round.

awesome!!!seriously bad news.*resists....*
*fails...*
I am my own worst enemy.
And as for 4, both have their merits and their drawbacks when writing. For me, it depends on the characters involved. Again with the reading of them.

Date: 2007-03-18 01:47 pm (UTC)Btw, I'm just looking down the list of prompts and some of them don't lend themselves immediately to full-blown smut. Do we have to include a sex scene, or can it just be overtones...sort of "outside of this conversation, these people are blatently getting hot and bothered together" but for the purposes of this fic they're doing this (i.e. meeting the prompt requirements)?

Date: 2007-03-18 01:42 pm (UTC)Established vs. First Time? Hm, I think I generally like the exitement of First Time stories, though art-wise, I don't really have a preference.

Date: 2007-03-18 03:31 pm (UTC)3 - last round of the year! omg!
will you be focusing on other challenges in the fall, or just giving yourself some well-earned vacation?
4 - I find it easier to write first times -- you don't have to work nearly as hard for the sexual tension, and there's something compelling about the all-of-this-is-new theme. But I do write both; there are some characters who just seem so comfortable with each other that if their relationship is sexual, then it can't be a brand-new thing (Rude/Reno by the time of Advent Children, Fran/Balthier in FFXII, etc).
...I think possibly because I find it more challenging, I always find it really cool when somebody manages to write an established relationship in a way that feels fresh and compelling for the reader despite the characters' familiarity with each other.

Date: 2007-03-18 03:45 pm (UTC)3 - You know I keep thinking 'spring'kink... am I really trying to take this into fall? *G* But what are name changes for? Ya know! I'll have to give it some thought.

Brava! Hammer to Nail. *G* That's it exactly.

Date: 2007-03-18 04:40 pm (UTC)Though once April is done, I think I'm going to have to do my best to not to sign up for quite so many anonymous/delayed posting challenges at the same time. Sitting on all this fic for so long is making me crazy! ^^;

Date: 2007-03-18 05:15 pm (UTC)I still keep finding things on the springkink & unclaimed YC lists that I want to pick up (probably because I'm down to the last handful of my springkink prompts and I'm going "man, why did I pick *that* one? did I have an inspiration that I've just forgotten?"). I'd be all for a smaller-scale and faster-paced challenge for a change of pace.
Are you looking at something like springkink, with a bunch of specific prompts, or something with a (few) more general prompts that people can take in any direction they like?

Date: 2007-03-18 05:24 pm (UTC)Well I already run something similar to the general prompt concept at

Date: 2007-03-18 05:33 pm (UTC)Trying to come up with something that works for everyone is a pain, isn't it? It probably is true that you'd have far more people able to participate with a little more time open -- if the timing is too compressed, only prolific/fast players can be involved. *still so very impressed at how well you manage*

Date: 2007-03-18 06:50 pm (UTC)I have a slight preference for writing established-relationships -- I'm not sure why; it may have something to do with the comfort level between the characters, and also it's nice to be able to work with a more developed dynamic there. But I do like both, and I don't think I have a preference for reading, just writing.

I should probably, you know, start working on the fics. *coughs*

Date: 2007-03-18 10:33 pm (UTC)And for me it kind of depends on the pairing to determine what kind of relationship fic I prefer. Although I must admit that I love get-together fics to, as puddingcat already said, see the transition from potential to actuality. (And they're usually very happy, all is well kind of stories which the hopeless romantic in me just melts all over).
That said, fics about an established relationship are fascinating in their own way for how comfortable the characters (generally) are with each other and how their physical relationship has affected their interaction everywhere else.
And an established relationship fic that follows a get-together fic is just all around great in my book :)

Date: 2007-03-19 02:42 am (UTC)As for your question, I've only written three fics with sex (with a fourth on the way. Really), and they've all been established relationships. I find comfort a lot more appealing the tension, and I like the way people who are already in a relationship can relax around another. As for reading, however, I don't seem to have a preference.

Date: 2007-03-19 08:04 pm (UTC)I find it a little easier to do established, so I guess I feel more accomplished writing first time fics. With regards to reading? I tend to prefer first time fics overall, but that's largely because I just haven't read that many established relationship fics. Again, tends to be Rude and Reno or other Turk combinations when it does happen ;), and I like it when it does, but overall yes, first time fics.
1. YAY and ARGH NO! *runs to finish more as so far has accomplished the finishing of... 1, out of the remaining 4. Eek! And also, thank you Heat for being cooperative.
2. Woo ^^, duly noted.
3. :D, shall get cracking on thinking up deliciousness then. And might probably fail, but shh.
5. Duly noted!

Date: 2007-03-20 07:10 am (UTC)--I enjoy reading first times because I am a UST whore. Writing? It can go either way. I like writing established r-ships when I know I can fuck with them-- throw someone else in the mix, make the r-ship not all that perfect to begin with, those sorts of things. In the end, I just love to make my characters miserable. No wonder I have no concrete muses anymore. -grin-

Date: 2007-03-21 06:35 pm (UTC)3 - Eeeexcellent. What're the format and dates for the y_c anniversary round, by the way? *is stupid this morning*
4 - Ooh, good one. I think there's a lot more excitement to first times, definitely; the promise of sexual tension finally being resolved is something I've always found appealing. Then again, some of my favorite pairings kind of lend themselves more to the "established relationship" vibe, and honestly, that can be nice too. I really like the unspoken closeness that couples in established relationships can have sometimes, and I love getting a chance to write it. So really, it depends on the pairing and my mood. I think I write more established-relationship stuff, though, at least when it comes to explicit pieces.
